Authorities in Erie, Pennsylvania, are still seeking $40,330 from Donald Trump's presidential campaign to pay for assistance they provided for his 2018 and 2023 campaign visits, bringing the total debt five cities say he owes them to over $740,000.

The Erie claim was made by a spokesman for the city's Democratic Mayor Joe Schember during a conversation with the Erie Times-News.

It is in addition to more than $700,000 of unpaid debts that four cities---El Paso, Texas; Spokane, Washington; Mesa, Arizona; and Green Bay, Wisconsin---were still seeking last month for rallies that took place between 2016 and 2019, a Newsweek investigation found.

It's shocking that anyone let's him have a rally without paying up front.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 93 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Given his legendary reputation for stiffing contractors, it's amazing anyone does any business at all with him without getting paid cash up-front.

[–] Mnemnosyne@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago

Yeah, this. I don't understand it. Why does anyone not in the MAGA cult do anything for this man if not fully paid up front? It's been decades since he was well known for not paying his debts and stalling as much as legally possible if taken to court to make him pay. There shouldn't be a single person who is in a position to provide services to him that doesn't know this!

[–] logos@sh.itjust.works 34 points 1 month ago (3 children)

It’s amazing that these cities let him hold another rally after stiffing them twice.

[–] aStonedSanta@lemm.ee 21 points 1 month ago

Not if the people in charge or approving it are republicans. They don’t care about tax payer money. At. All.

[–] Cadeillac@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Fool me twice and all that shit

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 8 points 1 month ago

You’d think at some point they would learn their lesson but they seem to love footing the bill.

[–] Roflmasterbigpimp@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

It's amazing he can step outside without People trying to sho... oh wait.

[–] mynameisigglepiggle@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

It's amazing that even after not paying for the 2018 rally, they still hosted his 2023 rally and then shocked Pikachu when he didn't pay that

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 2 points 1 month ago

Banking on a win perhaps

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

They weren't wearing enough restrictions, so people like Trump couldn't help but take advantage of them!

Old totals from who knows when

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Jesus, he went to Burlington VT? Was he trying to generate so much psychic dissonance that he summoned the angry ghost of Ethan Allen?

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I’m shocked he went to Lebanon OH, it’s like a suburb of one of Ohio’s medium cities. But Trump is a true egalitarian, he’s just as likely to stiff them as significant locales like Albuquerque

[–] moon@lemmy.cafe 47 points 1 month ago (2 children)

How does he simply get to choose not to pay back his debts? Like how is this shit optional??

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago

Exactly. Why don't they get payment up front and ban him in the future until the debt is paid?

[–] TwanHE@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Once your debt is big enough, it's mainly their problem not yours.

[–] fluckx@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I mean sure, but I think the point is that the average Joe would probably already have a collection agency harassing them while he's still in the "it's all just a misunderstanding probably. Let's just ask him again." situation

[–] lando55@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"If you owe the bank $100 that's your problem. If you owe the bank $100 million, that's the bank's problem."

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

I'd be arrested for fraud if i somehow owed the bank $100 million.

[–] Dainterhawk999@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Somewhat it's correct... It's like it's not my problem now as I have not paid the previous debts... It's ur choice that u still accepted me... Trumpshit

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 34 points 1 month ago

I was gonna say, doesn't this go back to 2016?

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 31 points 1 month ago

I'm pretty sure the reason Trump went to St. Cloud instead of Minneapolis of St. Paul is because all the big venues here are all owned or managed by some public group or another. Target Center (T-wolves,), the Minneapolis Convention Center, are both owned by Minneapolis out right; US bank stadium (vikings), Target Field (Twins baseball,) and the Xcell Center (the wild,)

Which really leaves Allianz field and CHS stadium, both of which are in St Paul, and it's dubious that the city would allow the event permits after the shitshow that happened during the 2020 Minneapolis rally. (something about day's notice, and among a lot of other things, ravening hordes of bigots from... not the city... many were just out-state rednecks, most were not from Minnesota at all, descending on checkpoints and not wanting to give up their firearms while also not having nearly enough porta-johns to accommodate them. ) (for anyone wondering. No. a security guard is not going to unlock the door and let you use the restroom because you're waiving firearms at them. they're going to leave the door locked and run away while calling the cops.)

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 21 points 1 month ago

That's just GOOD business! But we need to JAIL all these MOTHERS Shoplifting DIAPERS!

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Start putting liens on his big dumb buildings. That should get his fucking attention.

They all have lines against them already, the banks won't do it.. that's why he couldn't get the loans to pay the courts on time. If he had it he would have paid it day 1 and laughed it off to turn it into a power move as if he lost nothing, instead he was humiliated

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 month ago

Better send it to collections and get debt collectors revved up because y'all ain't gonna see a cent...

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Well I mean after he loses, is convicted and is subsequently sued they're.never getting paid. Might as well give it the ol college try now.

That fucker is never going to be held accountable.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 9 points 1 month ago

Lol, why woukdnthey let him back when he hadn't paid the first debt. They need to learn to get paid up front or say no.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago

If they can get the liens in place quickly enough, it can apply before he has to sell his stuff to pay for legal penalties.

[–] uebquauntbez@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

He's only able to pay his debts when stupid people buy his (overpriced, useless) stuff. The ones not buying his coins and shoes and stuff are the ones to blame! /s

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I feel bad for nobody.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Why does he bother having rallies in places like Spokane? I know there’s many country places in WA that are conservative areas, but don’t all of that states electoral votes go to one candidate? Or no?

[–] carl_dungeon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago
