“All the third-party candidates combined receive just 12% of the Arab American vote. Instead, it’s Trump who is the beneficiary of the community’s anger and despair over the Biden Administration’s failure to prevent the unfolding genocide in Gaza,”

And Trump will surely benefit Palestinians and the Arab-American community. Here’s a snippet of what Trump has to say:

It's a scorched earth mentality now. Both Democrats and Republicans, are allowing Israel to go full throttle on their genocidal campaign. If American politics is going to screw over Arabs, Arabs are going to screw over American politics.

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 11 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Hmm yeah after spending fortune migrating for a better life, let's screw both side.

Very smart.

I don't think they care anymore. A lot of these people lost family members to Israel, and then their elected representatives announce that Israel is in the right. Minnesota has a Palestinian who lost 42 family members on a single Israeli aistrike. Then Walz, their governor, goes on national television and says Israel has a right to defend itself. They're just numb to it all.

[–] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 weeks ago

Thing of it is, they do have a right to defend themselves.

Problem is, they’ve gone way beyond defending themselves. The death ratio is insane. It’s like shooting a person and their entire family for a cheap hit to the jaw.

It's how you punish your party in a two-party system

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If abandoning Harris gets Trump elected, they will only be harming themselves. Trump wants to revoke their citizenship, detain them in concentration camps, and deport them.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-pledges-expel-immigrants-who-support-hamas-ban-muslims-us-2023-10-16/

Because they refuse to support a candidate who is calling for an immediate cease fire and a 2 state solution:

[–] Sundial@lemm.ee 2 points 3 weeks ago

They know all that about Trump. They just don't care anymore.

And Harris is not saying anything Biden isn't saying either. And Israel is still going full throttle. So to them, there's no change.

[–] Myxomatosis@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

If that’s the case, they won’t get any sympathy from me if Trump wins because they’re really just screwing themselves.

[–] Sundial@lemm.ee 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't think they care about any of that anymore.

[–] Myxomatosis@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They will when Trump bans Muslims from entering the country, starts treating Arab Americans like second class citizens, and pushes Israel to go even further into war crimes and genocide.

[–] Sundial@lemm.ee 0 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

They're already being treated like second class citizens. Their entire demographic is being treated like a group that can be written off for the sake of political convenience and lobbying money.

And what are Democrats even doing to stop Israel to make them seem better on this topic?

[–] Myxomatosis@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don’t approve of how Biden has handled the Israel situation and I’m completely opposed to what Israel has done to the Palestinians. But I can assure you that getting Trump into office will make everything much, much worse. My vote is not for Harris as much as it is against Trump.

[–] Sundial@lemm.ee 0 points 3 weeks ago

They know all that. These people all rallied around Biden and voted for him in 2020 because they knew how bad Trump would be. But like I said, they just stopped caring.

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 6 points 3 weeks ago

these things crack me up. muslim-americans are not stupid.

Normally the reason this makes sense is - if the leading party that supports your side isn't supporting it enough, going to the other side punishes your party. It's an attempt to pressure your party into adopting a better position. And normally it works even if the other side's position is even worse, since your party would listen and work to get the votes back in the next election. So under normal circumstances, this is a fair play.

What's tough here is that there might not be another chance if Harris doesn't win this election since Democracy itself is at stake. So these aren't normal circumstances.

The Democrats will lose the election to prove theirs fealty to Israel

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (3 children)

Abandoning Israel would cause all the AIPAC and Evangelical dollars to flow into the Republican campaigns and they'd lose the election.

There is no Palestinian PAC to make up the difference.

[–] airdi@lemm.ee 2 points 3 weeks ago

There might be democratic APIAC dollars but there are more anti genocide voters than Pro Apiac voter

Exactly this. In addition to the Jewish voting bloc having a more realistic alternative, there's also a money issue. Basically Dems are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

[–] AfricanExpansionist@lemmy.ml -1 points 3 weeks ago

Yes, you prove my point. Both parties are captured by AIPAC. So, the Dems will happily continue to look past the genocide even if it costs them elections
