I use it daily, it's got a ton of features and it's customizamble. Hands down best FOSS podcast app

Probably, but I haven't tried any proprietary one, so I had to specify

I agree 100%. It's one of the first apps I download on a new phone and I've been using it for about a decade.

Great app that I recommend. I never listened to podcasts before I discovered the app, so I can't even compare it to others. It works.

[–] newIdentity@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

I did. It's the best (for me)

if this application does not suit you, please share your alternative applications.

I have been using AntennaPod for a long time! It works great for me.

Had anyone here switched to this from pocket casts? Anything you miss, did you go back?

[–] itsmikeyd@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Yup. The UI isn't quite as nice, and I wish there was a cast button elsewhere than the Play screen.

Otherwise, I have this weird bug where a podcast will start streaming locally a few minutes after starting playback on a cast target. Cast target continues to play so idk what that's all about.

Too bad, that the official gpodder.net server is 99% useless. Aside from that, the AntennaPod app is really great, I use that daily.

It has had quite a bit of downtime/undercapacity issues but for me it's has been working fine the last year at least.

I think some work was being done on rewriting the backend to make it more efficient but I don't know the exact state of that currently.

Love this app switched from Podcast addict and never looked back.

I love AntennaPod! I've relied on it for what feels like a few years (has it even been around that long?) and can't recommend it enough. Just give it time to get used to!

I wish it would autoplay either from the new episodes list, or next in podcast page, but aside from that I have been loving it.

AntennaPod is great but just...doesn't work.

All I need a podcast app to do is to auto download my podcasts so that they're ready to listen to when I don't have good service. And I need it to not take up large chunks of storage with several month old shows I never listened to. AntennaPod can't do it.

Like most FOSS software, it's ugly and doesn't work.

[–] washbasin@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can literally accomplish your use case with AntennaPod. You clearly have some issue with FOSS though.

[–] HughJanus@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I'm "literally" telling you that I can't. You "clearly" have a blind eye for FOSS.

[–] washbasin@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I can do it, but you can't?

Check the global app settings. Under Network you can limit your total downloads (Automatic Downloads). For example, I have it limited to 10 downloaded at a time. See if that helps you out.

[–] HughJanus@lemmy.ml -1 points 1 year ago

I've been through all the settings

[–] osvaldorosadoq@mastodon.radio 0 points 1 year ago (2 children)

@HughJanus

@Lemmy
It work fine for me. Enable auto download. It is very easy to do in the settings.

[–] tjhart85@kbin.social 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Works great for me too and has tons of options and flexibility.

No clue what they're talking about other than they clearly don't like FOSS:
Like most FOSS software, it’s ugly and doesn’t work.

For me, I wouldn't say it's ugly either, FWIW

[–] HughJanus@lemmy.ml -2 points 1 year ago

I like the concept of FOSS very much but there's no denying that it's often ugly and not user-friendly. This is no exception.

[–] HughJanus@lemmy.ml -1 points 1 year ago

Yes, I am aware that in order to download automatically that I have to enable auto download. It doesn't do anything.
