I’d be shocked if Newcastle doesn’t look into this

Worst Signing of All Time?
Wasn’t everyone puzzled then Milan sold Tonali that easily for a relatively low price given his class? Well there you go
Relatively low price? The transfer is a record for the most paid for an Italian player. Just because Premier League teams pay outrageous sums for players doesn't mean it's the same in Italy.
It's not a low price for all but 4 clubs in Europe.
Most expensive italian in history, low price
I'm a milan fan and I think it was a more than fair price for him. IMO 50 mil was realistic for him. He's not top tier.
Tonali is likely to face a lesser, but still lengthy ban for his help with the investigation - and for admitting his guilt
Is he looking at more time than Ivan Toney?
Not decided by the English FA so who knows. If it was, it would be much longer...
why would it be longer though? Didn't Toney do the same thing but many more times (dozens) AND he supposedly lied to investigators.
For what he did he certainly should do, for how clownish the entire system is he’s probably getting the same if not couple of months more.
Toney bet on his teams dozens of times, and lied to investigators though. Don't see why he should get more...
Any the punishments in italy are much harsher anyway, so he will get more than Toney.
If I'm Newcastle I'd be looking into whether AC Milan knew
I'd hire that Fabrizio Corona dude to look into it. He seems to know a thing or two about a lot.
There’s a gambling addiction and then there’s betting on your own team
Well said
This is what I don’t get about the addiction angle. As far as we know he wasn’t betting on Malaysian badminton at 2 am or ponies at some podunk track in the middle of Arkansas… he was betting on his own team. I’m not saying he isn’t an addict, but he very clearly had some level of control. To me it suggests he just thought he wouldn’t be caught, not that he couldn’t help himself.
You don't have to be a stereotypical degenerate head case to have genuine addiction. Especially that very very American example of an addict
No one starts at the finish line
These boys are in their early twenties and all they've done so far in life is play football. So they bet on what they knew. They don't need the money one bit, it was all about the next dopamine hit
I’d say betting on your own team / football in general, when it’s a three year ban for doing so, is a clear sign off addiction.
Sucks for Newcastle. He's looked very good.
Bet on his own team. Milan have gotten away with murder here, Newcastle are gonna have to eat a BIG ban.
1+ years for sure
lmfao all that blabbering PR sob stories put out yesterday to attempt to gain pity when he admits his guilt. what a tactic
Paqueta when?
Innocent until proven guilty
Oh it’s coming lol. His betting was idiotic
Paqueta didn’t do any betting though.
Mate what’re you on about? Not only was he betting himself, but also had family and friends betting also…. ON HIMSELF during live games he was actively playing in. He is absolutely tonked once they finalize their case
There's no evidence Paqueta bet.
His family almost certainly did.
That’s match fixing, should be banned for life. Of course, that’s if they are serious, but no way they will actually do anything except a paid vacation. Filth
Was Toney banned for life? Tonali and Fagioli did far less and have received longer bans so you premier league fans should at least be a little bit objective on these things lol
I think Toneys ban should’ve been way harsher and same for Fagioli. The fact is tonali kept going even after the Toney situation. Unless leagues actually do something aside from a paid vacation. It’ll never fix the issue
Ban betting from being promoted if you ban players, who are the ones carrying this trash on their kits, from betting.
I think gambling is a big issue and betting ads everywhere in football are a horrible thing but you’re comparing apple to oranges. The issue here is that he bet on his own team
I dont believe a single word... this is just damage control... he for sure has also bet against milan, but his lawyer has probably told him to say he has not... same as when you are caught with a bigger portion of illegal deugs and tell the police that you are addict and just have it for own consumption and do not sell it...
Imagine paying 80 mil for this dick swab, and then on top of it he gets banned for years 😂😂😂
The Italians just can't catch a break from the players to the national team.
Damn that's really bad
It's wild to now read a bunch of "He was never that good anyway" after all the drama/hype when the transfer got confirmed this summer.
He may not be a world class player but he's still a very good midfielder. Is it just because he didn't live up to the insane hype he got when he was a teenager?
No wonder he rarely smiles or laughs
Unpopular opinion (maybe?): there is nothing unethical about betting your own team to win outright. Playing a spread or for a draw or any other prop bet you can influence is unethical, but betting on yourself to do your job doesn’t seem the same.
I know it’s illegal and immoral because of that, but is there anything inherently immoral about betting that your club will WIN? I mean, if he bet on loosing, ties, yellow cards, minutes where the goal is scored, etc. But winning? That’s basically what he’s paid to do.
The comments 🙄 mute r/soccer
Palpatine rubs his hands "good....goooooood"
What a pillock.
Makes sense that he he went to newcastle ..bigger pay =cover debts and more money to gamble
Uh oh, holy shit.
This reminds me of the Adrian Mutu situation with Chelsea. It’ll be interesting to see what Newcastle does with him/his contract.
