My grandfather passed away a few years ago and I have been storing some of his watches in my watch box since then. I think the dial is gorgeous and the watch actually runs, but not very well. The hands have something that looks like a faded black paint on them. How likely is that to be radium? I am considering opening up the watch to see about repairing and wearing it, but if it is radium I'll probably just polish the crystal and leave it in the watch box.

TBH, if you’d prefer to wear it, use a Geiger counter to see what the levels are. You can get them for under $40 and may be able to find one used.
