I received a mail and also confirmed on this forum that the status is updated to Planned.

No idea when it will be ready, but i'm very happy with this.

I'm really intrigued. However I really wish they would spend some time improving their mail and calendar apps.

So what you're saying is that you want a Proton web browser next? /s

@CO_Chewie @Papanca ... and also improve the rate of development...

[–] Papanca@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Yes, i agree, but at least they just added a search function for the web calendar.

What's wrong with it? It seems to work good enough for me.

I am actually super excited about this. I hope they get some good sharing tools in place but even a reasonably priced photo upload and storage service would be really great.

This is great and all. But what I really want is a stand alone Pass app! Even just a web app would be great. Anything besides JUST a browser extension. Yes I know there is a mobile app.

If the photo pricing plans are large and competitively priced, I would certainly consider switching.

They sent an email today and i quote:

What’s coming next in Proton Pass?

Password Sharing: You will be able to share your logins, secure notes, email aliases, and credit card information with other people, keeping your data end-to-end encrypted at all times.
Web app: This will let you conveniently manage your data or open Proton Pass in a full browser tab instead of the browser extension.
Desktop apps: With apps for Windows, Linux and macOS, you’ll have better offline support and better integration with your deviceʼs operating system.

I think they should work on connecting the apps together to form an account like your Google account does to replace that account for Stock Android and LineageOS as well.

Not to burst your bubble but marking it as planned on user voice means nothing.

This feature asking to sync contacts with your phone's address book has been planned sine January 2019.

Edit: huh, hyperlink didn't work...

On Reddit someone posted a screenshot from a Proton mail stating that they got invited to the beta test. I think its closer than you might think.

So probably 2025 or something if you consider their development speed... /s

Beta test for which thing, photos or contacts?

[–] not_a_bot_i_swear@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Photos. Contact sync would be amazing though.

Hoper it will be good as Ente Photo in term of user experience !

[–] Papanca@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Oh thanks, i never heard of this! It sounds very appealing; i might even try this until proton photos will be available.

[–] nitefox@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Considering how bad their mobile apps are (at least on iOS), it will probably meet the same fate as proton calendar

[–] Yinchie@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

One of the biggest features I am waiting for. I hope they are as good or better than ente.io I consider ente.io as a perfect privacy oriented Google Photo's replacement.

[–] Papanca@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I wanted to try ente, but they didn't accept my proton pass alias, i never got a verification code. So, here's to hoping proton photos is ready soon. I trust it will be reasonably ok when it gets launched, but it can take a long time before they add improvements on their products.

Hmm I use a alias as well and it works quite well. Although I do make use of my own domain name.

[–] Papanca@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I tried several, so maybe it's indeed the domain name. But good to know yours worked
