Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Why the fuck would you cut that program in the first fucking place?!?

[–] AlecSadler@sh.itjust.works 6 points 10 hours ago

Didn't it take forever and many battles to even establish to begin with?

Maybe they thought it would just go quietly into the night.

Cruelty.

Or Russia.

Same thing.

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 22 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Well, it was a stupid thing to try because it immediately sends the message that you don’t care about a) first responders b) 9/11

The only other budget cut I can think of right now that would create less favorable publicity is, if they cut all the funding to the VA, or more specifically to the VBA(which is in charge of distributing funds to people with disabilities due to being deployed or enrolled in military service )

https://news.va.gov/press-room/va-dismisses-more-than-1000-employees/

It will "save money" and totally won't impact their ability to distribute resources.

Yeah, I’m not included in this article is the idea that the VA is actually split up into three segments. One of them is the veterans benefits association. The other one is the veterans health administration and then the third one is the national cemetery organization that plans out who gets to be buried in a national cemetery such as Arlington national Park.

I don’t think there’s been enough transparency on who’s actually getting fired here … And as a veteran, I think it’s a little bit disingenuous to say that you’re gonna honor our country and our veterans and then/funding and employment at an organization that already needs the help

Everything in healthcare is more expensive now, and the amount of increase in funds has not been proportional to that increase for many decades. Just my two cents

Hanlon’s Razor fails us here.

This shot is not sufficiently explained by stupidity.

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

Thinking Hanlon's Razor more so on this one. They're just blindly slashing shit.

[–] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 14 hours ago

I now have to wonder if the 9/11 health program had an open investigation into one of Musk's companies.

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago

Even a 4th grade girl in a popularity contest could have helped advise them on this one…

[–] BanjoShepard@lemmy.world 4 points 15 hours ago

I'm hoping the whole administration is a situation of Hanlon's Razor, but that might also just be me huffing copium.

NEVER FORGET

Well, maybe once… for a week… as a treat.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 10 points 14 hours ago

When they say "never forget" they mean "keep the terror and hurt close to you and push away all attempts to band together and grow"

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 6 points 14 hours ago

Republicans want you to forget until they need you to remember so that they can trick you into voting against your own interests
