There is zero reason to have a bye week logically speaking anymore. The reason is money, that's all. Yeah, sure, 'safety' or giving players a break... Early bye week teams would really like the late bye week other teams get, yes? You betcha.
Bye weeks suck.
The bye week arose because the NFL had 31 teams due to the Cleveland Browns re-becoming a thing. So at that point they had to do something, 'cause some team wasn't going to play every week, so teams got a bye. They had to make up some weird rules back then.
So when the Texans came about they kind of liked the bye weeks, and they just... kept them.
But hey, extra week of NFL, everyone likes that, sure. Ok. Fine. Here's the fix:
Week 8: AFC is off that week. All NFC games.
Week 9: NFC is off that week. All AFC games.
Tada. You can flip them every year, AFC first, then NFC first, even make it a big spectacle thing if you want. All the games color rush or alternate uniforms or throwbacks... or even one offs for that week! Make it a little odd party kind of a thing. More uniforms to sell too, yes? Yes! NFL likes that.
EVERYBODY should like that. So let's do that. Hell, I'm excited thinking it could even be a thing, let's go!
/Oh, yeah... (c) 2023 me, NFL, so if you do that, I want recompense. Just a little, I'm not that expensive... in your grand scheme of selling things, truly I'm not...
