Just to add, when I saw the post I thought the 2 gorillas referred to Onana AND Maguire. I read it as him calling them beasts basically

That pic is peak “ima bout to destroy this man’s whole career” vibes

[–] thatguyad@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's good of him but I think it will set a bad precedent because now all the half wits out there will use this their excuse or "out".

I mean you’re giving in to the racist stereotype by acknowledging it. The FA are the racists in this case.

[–] MentalJack@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That should put this matter to bed, it won't, but it should.

Onana was a hero in that match, Garnacho is his teammate

it just doesn't make sense Garnacho insult Onana out of the blue

so yeah, racism should be viewed depend on the context, it's just wrong to punish Garnacho especially if Onana didn't feel offended by it

I refer to myself with the gorila emoji. I’m as white as it gets.

[–] Arammarsh@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Tbf the FA trying to take action against garnacho could be considered matchfixing against us as we’re more likely to lose without him in the lineup

Footballers need to remember that twitter isn't the WhatsApp group chat.

You know what you can get away with when talking with friends. When speaking to the world you need to consider everyone's reaction.

Footballers should generally be careful what they publicly post… at the end of the day they’re just footballers. Shouldn’t expect them to act like politicians

By this logic you can't call a black kid a cheeky monkey? Can we still say monkey bars if a black kid is on them? Can we sing the little monkeys jumping on the bed song with black kids any more?

Also is a gorilla OK to anyone not black? What about to Indians or pacific islanders? Tanned Spaniards?

[–] ABomBAdam@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

This wouldn't offend me either but the FA set the precedent with bernado silva though so at least a 1 match ban and a £50,000 fine required.

Bro saved a penalty as if they won the champions League

Common sense prevails

We all know that completely ending racism is a platitude, there will always be depraved individuals to ruin things. But how the bloody hell does the FA expect to end it from their side when they’re seeing racism where it doesn’t exist and handling situations like this? It’s like the people who say they “hate drama” often seem to be the ones stirring it.

The media wants to dictate what is and what isn't offensive, good on Onana

How soft have we become as society is beyond me.
