The medical team should be taking this out of his or the team's hands. He needs to be shut down for the season.

[–] hjhof1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

If you read then article it says the strength is returning and they need to let it fully heal before he comes back, but isn’t seen as season ending. So it sorta sounds like they have a solid plan

[–] Dave_Pumpkins_01@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

"They" in this case means people who don't actually care about Daniel Jones, only his availability to play.

[–] MamiSoldier323@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If you read this as a non-diehard you would see it comes off as insanity. It’s not his wrist.

[–] legodjames23@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Timeline for severe cervical radiculopathy can vary significantly though. Some people can heal up real fast in a few weeks with no residual issues. some people need surgery or they end up never being able to use their left side.

[–] ShrikeMeDown@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Had a few pretty bad herniated discs and nerve damage. Went from doing 50 push-ups to 5 because my left side was so weak. After 3 or 4 months I could do 20. Got to my maximum after about a year and can do 40 on a good day. Left side is still weaker than my right and will never recover. Hope he doesn't have permanent damage.

[–] Saw_a_4ftBeaver@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Similar in that my right arm is weaker than my left after a minor spinal fracture and surgery. No damage to my arm just numbness and weaker. My bench press is fairly pitiful considering right arm is mostly there to balance out the bar for my left.

[–] DireBlue88@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

What caused the injury? This is is very serious and can affect life outside football.

[–] McChillbone@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He took a blindside hit from Andrew Van Ginkle against the Dolphins. Got crunched pretty decent, but nothing crazy.

[–] erishun@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just getting demolished and taking hits of all kids including a particularly nasty looking blind side hit. There’s no offensive line and as soon as he snaps the ball, kid is running for his life

[–] monkeyhold99@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

His season is over

[–] garygreaonjr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I always thought he looked like he got hit in the head with a shovel. Now I have proof.

[–] WayofHatuey@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Damn got that payday before 2 neck injuries. Yah I’ll retire if I were DJ

[–] Sleek1229@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Time to retire. 2 neck injuries before 30 years old is not good.

[–] constantlymat@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Wouldn't be surprised if he does exactly that after gutting it out this and next year.

Then he retires with $110m in career earnings.

[–] Sleek1229@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

He has made 72mil already. Another 38mil is not worth my neck. He can do plenty with 72 to make more money without football.

[–] constantlymat@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

You can argue that, but knowing what we know about football players I think it is more likely to assume he will at least return for 2024 and the rest is TBD.

Stafford has a spinal condition as well and is at quite the risk in case he reinjures it. He also decided not to retire before his option bonus cashed this year.

Really nobody but Andrew Luck ever walked away from that type of guaranteed money.

[–] The-Implication-0@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Didn’t Teddy Bruschi have like a stroke and was told to never play football again by doctors but he did? I honestly can’t remember exactly, it’s been a while.

[–] realmckoy265@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's not even just about money. Football is all these guys know. It's been their whole life. Not easy to just walk away, even if paid.

[–] Saw_a_4ftBeaver@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Depends on the contract.

Alex smith came back I swear just to spite Dan Snyder. While on injured reserves they get a portion of the game check, which is more than they would get if they retire. If you are going to go through a long rehab anyway you might as well do it while getting paid. Sure you aren’t getting another contract but you might as well get as much of your contract as you can.

[–] Cthepo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You should be getting your full game check. All contracts are injury garunteed in the NFL. The only thing you'd miss would be performance incentives but those are in the minority.

[–] Von_Lincoln@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I can’t find the article, but in one interview Alex Smith said one of the biggest reasons he came back was he tells his children “if you set your minds to it and work hard, you can do anything” and he saw his rehab as necessary to prove that to them.

[–] HeywardH@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How much fucking money does a guy need lol

[–] Outside_Break@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It’s not about the money though. Football’s all he’s known and what he loves. He won’t want to walk away. There’s a reason so many players go until they just physically can’t recover enough between games to continue.

Then there’s the adrenaline. I used to play in front of a few people and it’s exhilarating. It’s addictive. Walking away out of choice is tough if you could still play and the adrenaline of game day is very hard to replace.

Then there’s the institutionalisation. These players have had the safety of a crystal clear aim and structure over their adult life. It’s scary to move away from that too.

[–] Sleek1229@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He went to Duke. Football isn't his whole life.

[–] bjbearfight@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He also has an injury clause in his contract that guarantees over 20m in 2025 if he retires or is cut due to injury.

[–] constantlymat@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Sounds like he has a good agent.

[–] rodrigoa1990@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

considering paralysis as a possible outcome, it would be a no brainer for me

[–] sephtater@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can DR. r/nfl chime in here? I’m not sure I trust these “experts”.

[–] HathNoHurry@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Oh huh, wonder if he was vaxxed with mRNA

[–] NurmGurpler@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)
[–] d_gorder@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Fucking hell lol

[–] 8teamparlay@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Unreal AD drop

[–] kerbherbstreet@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That’s pretty fucked. I don’t know how patient the Giants will be with the recovery because these symptoms could take months to recover from. Surgery is probably the move they are going to make

[–] nooo82222@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Dude got paid too. Smart. People might disagree with it but good for this guy. How many running backs get hurt and their Career is over and they don’t get paid

[–] YueAsal@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

From a purely football outlook I wonder if this would prevent other QBs from wanting to play behind that awful O Line

[–] Dr_broadnoodle@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Daniel, you are 26 years old. You have millions of dollars, solid connections and an an economics degree from Duke. There is always coaching, broadcasting or using that big brain to do…pretty much anything you want. Two neck injuries this young might be a sign. Just sayin’. Think it through.

[–] tubby_LULZ@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He just needs to listen to dolphin mating sounds

[–] Defacto_Champ@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Scary stuff. Neck injuries are nothing to mess around with.

[–] ZacapaRocks@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

There is also a hint of career long throwing touchdown passes weakness.

[–] CARNIesada6@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I thought this was an onion article based on the headline

[–] ViciousSquirrelz@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He has an amazing injury settlement clause in his contract.

He needs to look in the mirror and ask if it's really worth it.

[–] pghgreatest@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Shut it down

[–] JW_BM@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just have a bad neck because of chronic health issues; I've never had a neck injury. The idea of Jones having two injuries before thirty is just horrible to me.

[–] Indigobreaker@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Is this saying the left side of his NECK is weak or the left side of his BODY?

[–] YourAverageJet@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Hell nah. Might be time to consider retirement

[–] TimTom8921@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can say the same about his O line

[–] elreeso55@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I'd say getting a $160 million contract is succeeding.

[–] colin_7@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If this was the Niners medical team, he would’ve be active

[–] samefacenewaccount@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Does this also explain what's wrong with his face?
