The game pricing argument goes back and forth for me. Yes, on paper, you could say that inflation suggests games should go up in price, especially considering how many more developers are needed to put out high-fidelity games. BUT, on the other hand, the minimum wage has not raised significantly in all of that time. As a result, a significant number of gamers genuinely can't pay more for games than they could 20+ years ago. The reason these larger studios exist is because of gaming's expanded reach in that time; and many of these new target territories similarly can't pay for the equivalent of $80USD.

There's maybe only about 1-2 games I've ever even paid the $70 price tag for.

I agree, sales are constant (at least on PC) so I almost never even paid the $60 price tag. They can keep cranking up the prices but more and more people may just wait for sales. I know Nintendo games don't go on sale very often but that makes the ecosystem even less attractive. $450 is in the range of a Steam deck.

Inflation or not, prices can only go up if the market will support them. If people are unable (or unwilling) to pay the higher prices, then prices basically can't go up.

I mean... I will be able to get a Nintendo Switch 2 eventually... Regarding the Steam Deck, I can't buy it officially in Mexico yet... Come on Valve, we are literally neighbors of the USA lol.

Those are not the same thing? How do I play the new Donkey Kong and Formsoft exclusive (!) on a Steam deck?

Emulation (although you may have to wait a bit)

Do you really think the Steam Deck will have the horsepower to emulate Switch 2? I'd love too, but even Switch 1 is not in perfect level yet (like PPSSPP perfect like).

Why not? Just because the Switch 2 can do 4k60 doesn't mean it's super powerful. Thd Switch 1 was obsolete when it launched, so a hardware upgrade over that could be literally anything. For reference, even the Raspberry Pi can do 4k60 nowadays.

Afaik, Switch 2 specs haven't been revealed (have they?) so we don't know yet what to expect, but considering it's a handheld it will likely have similar power constraints to the Deck, possibly even more to achieve longer battery life. (But tbf, the deck is relatively old by now and could itself benefit from an upgrade). As far as emulation, we at least know Nintendo considered it worth the effort to try to take down all Switch 1 emulators before even revealing fhe Switch 2, probably suggesting it's not going to be hard to emulate.

The trailer mentions that the Switch 2 can do 4k60 when docked only on some games. Just knowing Nintendo's cheap asses, I doubt you'll get that from any significant 3D title. It'll probably be limited mostly to 2D titles, simple 3D ones, or maybe some hyper-polished first party titles. I doubt you'll see that in the new Bloodborne, possibly not even 120 while in handheld either.

The steam deck just barely emulates the switch, so I think switch 2 emulation is out of the question unless there is serious performance hacks. Ryujinx likely would have been able to emulate the switch 2 one or two years after launch just like what happened with dolphin and the Wii. but Nintendo illegally got them shut down

Why not?

Let's be objective here, can you really see the Steam Deck emulating the Cyberpunk 2077 game of the Switch 2? I know there is not a reason to do this, but these kinds of achievements are what I mean with "perfect emulation".

But tbf, the deck is relatively old by now and could itself benefit from an upgrade

I have no doubts that a Steam Deck 2 will emulate Switch 2 games... But everyone keeps telling me this won't happen soon enough...

That is one opinion, my personal one is that they just did it because they can still benefit from the sales of the Switch 1 games as the console is retrocompatible, so of course they would want you to pay for them instead of emulating them... Think of it as when they were actively blocking flashcarts that launched games for the DS in the 3DS.

Perhaps, but what we know as of now is that Metroid Prime 4 was announced to run at 4K 60 FPS/1080p 60 FPS which I think the current Steam Deck will not be able to achieve (it doesn't even have such resolutions), perhaps 720p 120 FPS is doable, but if it can't perfectly emulate the Switch 2 then I don't see it as a viable Switch 2 replacement.
