2000 NYT: We must overthrow the government of Iraq 😬

2025 NYT: We must overthrow the government of America 😎

It's kind of hard to take the NYT seriously after they've spent more than a decade failing to really take a stand against the right wing, but I guess better tepid and late than never?

What's unusual here is that Brooks is a conservative, the old kind who does believe in Constitution and three branches of government. And even he sees the rise of fascism. So, it's not a perfect fit for this instance, but it would be nice to think there's more conservatives like him out there because the Left can't take the Reich down alone.

Brooks spent years promoting Republicans on this slippery slope, as did many "woke" former Republicans like Michael Steele, Steve Schmidt, Bill Kristol, Sarah Longwell and John Bolton.

Everyone should be constantly reminded that he, as well as every conservative and neolib, helped and empowered fascism right up until the final hour, but they shouldn't be treated like they're the enemy for opposing it either (unless their actions are incongruent with their words).

Welcome their support, but remind them that they're compromised, anything but an expert or authority, and that they do not deserve to hold a seat at the table when the monster they created is eliminated.

An uprising? Oh gosh, don’t let the mods hear that word. It’s “uncivil”

Well now that we have your approval, NYT, nothing’s stopping us! Lead the way, buddy!

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nothing was stopping us before either, but if this is what gets you to show up to a protest, then I'm all for it.

[–] jimjam5@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, if a generally mainstream platform like theirs were to announce a date/time/location for people to converge and protest, I think it would help to get a general strike going.

Right, that's how you get the boomers out. I know a lot that want to protest but can't find information on where, or plan for it etc. Local papers even more so.
