Just curious, Do you consider watches to be Jewelry, an Accessory, or a Utility?

Obviously, jewelry and accessories can mean the same thing, so I'll clarify. Jewelry is usually for looks or sentiment, while accessories (belts, ties, etc) typically have a function as well.

Personally, being new in the watch collecting space, my watches are all "Jewelry" for now.
I don't find myself using them for the time since clocks are everywhere, and I've used the ones I've bought lately to add a bit of flare to my outfits. Smart watches (definitely a utility) just aren't pretty enough!

My Gshock is utility, others are more accessory and jewelry.

All of the above. Utility is high on the list though. I don’t like checking time on a phone when I’m out.

I have started wearing an analog watch to diminish how often I touch my phone and get roped into more than checking the time. They are also nice jewelry, but function first.

Utility while at work, jewelry when not at work. (No phone allowed at work)

I think of the three options you provided, it’s an accessory. IMO the beauty of watches is that it’s something now so readily available (time), that can mechanically be so complicated to create that is shared amongst the world.

Accessory / utility but i like the look of steel so maybe a little bit jewelry. So there, all of the above.

Utility first. I wouldn’t wear it if I didn’t use it. I don’t wear anything else. No rings bracelets necklaces.

Utility (Casio W800H)

For me, an accessory.

Transition from looking at the time on my phone to looking at my watch was a process, but now I often end up looking at my naked wrist. I probably wear a watch around 3/4 or more of my waking hours, either a smart watch during sport or a "watch watch" the rest of the time.

Great analogy btw with the belt!

Jewelry.

Bro nobody can say it's a utility with a straight face

I don't personally see the difference between jewelry and accessory

I'm a nurse (home hospice) and I need a watch with a second hand to take Vital Signs because the only other option would be for me to take out my phone turn on the stopwatch and use that. Which would be super annoying and slower.

There are these super cool Spiegel watches that are kind of like pocket watches with a retractable leash and when I worked in the hospital and needed to count drips in the chamber when I was running stuff that could not go through the IV pump, like albumin, because it is too thick you could literally hold the watch right up to the chamber and count the drips with the second hand right there. The first time I did that the other nurse in the room had her mind blown

I'm a nurse and a medic before that. I need a watch with a second hand to take vital signs.

For me it's half accessory, half utility. I take the bus a lot so it's convenient to have the time right there on my wrist.
