there is 82 games in NBA, in NFL there is a lot less of it, right? so maybe media in NBA can not be serious for that long (they don't know what to talk about)
same thing for making stars care more about regular season, you can't make them, because it is better to not play too much

JJ makes a great point afterwards tho, the NFL sometimes has 25 seconds between plays so it's easier to break things down on TV, where the nba you have to wait for a break in the game to explain the game the way Silver mentioned.
I think the problem is it’s hard to find talent that is entertaining and knowledgeable at the same time. Like everybody loves Inside the NBA but I don’t think any of those guys are basketball geniuses. A lot of the “Xs and Os” analysts are extremely boring to listen to
Zach Lowe is the best example I can think of in terms of being able to talk about the game itself in a way that is entertaining. And for color commentators both Van Gundy’s are pretty good at that, Hubie Brown is the GOAT but idk how many more years he’ll be doing it
At the end of the day you determine what media you consume (outside of the actual games commentators). ESPN/TNT are going to put out whatever content they find most profitable, and that generally seems to be SAS/Perk type stuff
