He's like the TE version of Trey Lance but he's actually good.

Have you seen his biceps?

[–] ThaFatBABY@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He was so freaking good with Drew Brees

[–] Spicybrown3@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

He had a decent mid range jumper?

[–] Worstbestfriend0311@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The mini-trend of drafting basketball players.

[–] Tua-Lipa@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

George Fant, who’s currently the starting Right Tackle for the Texans and previously the Seahawks and Jets, is even more crazy.

George Fant went to college at Western Kentucky. He was listed as a TE. He played in two career college games and his cumulative official stats in college was 1 catch for 7 yards, and he also had two tackles lol

[–] ronmsmithjr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Spent too much time fucking around with basketball, probably.

[–] sfzen@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Real big, fantastic athlete, was super efficient in college despite low volume, plus it was the Saints that drafted him. Sean Payton's entire offense was built around creating mismatches, and Graham was a matchup nightmare -- too fast and shifty for LB coverage, too big for DB coverage, redzone TD machine. We had Colston dominating in a similar role, so Graham just added another layer of that. Two big-bodied receiving threats like them on the field meant that we didn't need guys like Henderson and Meachem to be anything other than fast.

Also he was a 3rd round pick. He's more like the TE version of Cardale Jones but actually good. His 17 career receptions in college resulted in over 200 yards and 5 TD's.

Can’t coach height

[–] ifollowphillysports@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The Vikings drafted Moritz Bohringer out of a German football league cuz he was 6’5” 240 and ran a 4.4. Crazy measurables will get people drafted

[–] Double-Passenger4503@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Same way Antonio Gates did

[–] Canadian__Bacon94@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He played Basketball 4 years and only had 42 less receptions than Kelce. It's all about development and work ethic to get better

[–] ShouldersofGiants127@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Measurables.

Also football is a sport where you can produce like a scrub or star depending on whatever coaching scheme you're in.

[–] mobbedoutkickflip@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He played basketball in college.

[–] silliputti0907@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think he was a basketball star. Correct if I'm wrong. Nfl used to love converting basketball stars into TEs.

[–] bwburke94@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

502 rebounds.

[–] SuperSpy_4@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He was a really good basketball player.

[–] startupschmartup@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He had a lot of potential. Ended up on a team with a great quarterback. Just coulldn't block very well.

[–] bring_back_pangea@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Look up Antonio Gates college stats.

[–] bring_back_pangea@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

George kittle had 48 career college catches.

[–] ashfidel@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] gmil3548@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Same way Gates did with zero games played

[–] cnh66@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Freak of nature athlete, look at jordan mailata you can teach technique you can’t teach size and athleticism

[–] SunriseSurprise@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Antonio Gates had 0 receptions in college

[–] dynospectrum7@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Zero rosters too lol

[–] Specific_Goose_8582@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

same way shaedon sharpe was a top 10 draft prospect without playing a minute of college ball

[–] ready4wateva@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Do you know how many football receptions TE Antonio Gates had at Kent State?

[–] ecwfan3000@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

More like TE version of Matt Cassel since Trey Lance actually had stats in college.

[–] utexfan18@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

At least he played college ball. Marcus Pollard played in parts of 14 seasons, mostly with the Colts. He went to a college (Bradley) that doesn't even have a football program.

[–] Legndarystig@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Height and speed

[–] cardinaltribe@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You’ve never seen I’m in person have you 🤣

[–] Remmy71@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Pretty sure he still had more receptions than Jordan Mailata had snaps at tackle…considering he didn’t even play American football before the NFL. Some guys are just built for the game, and GMs thus take notice of them. Night Train Lane basically made the NFL using a scrapbook as his résumé.

[–] raoulduke415@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

George Kittle only had 48 receptions

[–] OppositeSpiritual863@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] psych4191@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can't teach measurables and he has everything you want in a TE.

[–] johnnybags44@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

When the Saints were practicing in Miami before Super Bowl 44 the staff called asked UM coaches which of their prospects was most pro ready and they all said Graham. Pretty cool story.

[–] slackator@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How the fuck did Antonio Gates go pro with 0 receptions?

How the fuck did Jordan Mailata go pro without ever having seen the sport?

The world may never know the answer to these questions...oh wait, scouting, scouting is obvious answer to the question

[–] LateAd3737@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How do we know Trey Lance isn’t good? He hasn’t gotten much of a chance

[–] cire1184@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Jordan Mailiata never played American Football in any capacity before he started in the international program. He never even watched football. Some people are just good at stuff.

[–] Space_man5000@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Told to me by many coaches. "YOU CAN'T TEACH SIZE BOY" - from west Texas

[–] gan-a@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

same way jordan mailata did

[–] whimsoft@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If Anthony Richardson had declared he was going to never play another snap of Quarterback in his life and was going to exclusively play Tight End, he would still get drafted.

Sometimes it’s just about a big guy who runs fast
