Wow, how sarcastic this sub has become, barely a functioning answer anywhere. I think OPs question is a good one, and maybe we could run a poll and see what counts as hi-fi around these parts? I am very pleased with my Focal Bathys, but I do not know if they count as hi-fi. They certainly have the most true-to-source sound I have ever heard, but that is just my single experience.

I vote for hifi.

'Midfi' is a bullshit idea for people who spent too much to pretend there is any additional performance available at $$$$$ prices.

But my Utopias are more hifi. /s

It’s end game whatever you can afford. Don’t forget that the point is enjoying the music: f you can- you re already there!

Another kidney and you really got to put your heart and soul into it as well to really achieve Hifi.

You don't show the most important part: Do you use an audiphile ethernet cable for 1000$?

BTW funfact: The german Standard for HiFi (which is old, existed until 1996) was called "DIN 45500" and it said that you need +-5dB from 250Hz to 6300Hz. I think your equipment may achieve that.

I'm fucking tired of claims that the only true hifi headphones are worth 1000 dollars or more. The hifi treshold is too subjective that there's a hifi range that everyone can agree on. But if you ask me, hifi can be anything that sounds enjoyable to you and precise enough that you can easily hear the important things from your music.

People that spent more will never call it hifi, and people that dont have it yet always will

Not yet you need several headphones a turntable, separates ie tuner, amps, floor speakers, then more speakers, upgraded cables, isolation feet, cabinets,CDs internet player, apps,CDs files EQ Software, then more software for the hardware, room treatment acoustics or should I hàve just stuck to one headset & amp.Hehe enjoy your journey the sound is worth it,but used if your addicted 🤣

You have to install your own power station in order for it to be “HiFi”. Otherwise you’re just running off dirty power which will automatically downgrade HiFi to LoFi.

You can live with just one kidney, right?

If you will put some effort into aesthetics in your environment you can be considered as hi fi owner, for now you are just attention wh * :)

[–] Slavadir@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

So long as you don't listen to lofi, it's hifi basically

[–] TheMisterTango@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Whether or not something is HiFi has basically nothing to do with price. HD58X and an apple dongle is HiFi for under $200 all in. There are $3000 headphones that sound worse than some $300 headphones. Don't conflate price with sound quality.

Dude that's better then my headphone setup and I make music 💀

[–] Ok-Cut7935@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

you know there is a couple of arguments to this question

on one hand a decent FIO DAC with Ebay HD600’s can. be good

on the other you can go full analog turntable with a tube amp setup

either way both has its charms and merits

[–] softriceking001@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You need to go that far to listen YouTube music?

[–] Tunbing@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You could sell someone else's kidney instead

[–] hevea_brasiliensis@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Focal Elex's are Hi-Fi. Yes.

[–] 87TLG@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What headphones are those? I want to know more.

[–] dib1999@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's not hifi until you're hiring the musicians to do live performances at your request.

Hi-fi is a state of mind

😌

Definition if hifi: The DIN 45500, however, specified a frequency range of at least 40/50 Hz to 12.5 kHz (the lower limit depending on the device type).
The human ear is most sensitive to tones between 2 kHz and 5 kHz, making pitch differences most perceptible in this range. For magnetic sound technology, DIN 45500 mandated a linear frequency response in the range of 250 Hz to 6300 Hz for HiFi home studio devices, with a tolerance of up to 5 dB. Stricter rules applied to studio devices according to DIN 45511: In a frequency range of 80 Hz to 8000 Hz, only a tolerance of 3 dB was allowed.
