The replies to this were fucking hilarious
NBA - Main
Game analysis, highlights and everything else that is happening in the NBA.
I hate chronic gamblers.
You're not part of any bets Malik
Star?
I gamble but I still think this shit 100% shouldn't be allowed to be promoted by the league
The stream service I use to watch game has twitch chat embedded right next to the stream. The amount of degeneracy that goes on regarding players hitting a certain threshold so they can win their money is crazy.
As someone who sports bets a TON, the culture of it all is so fucking annoying. Especially people who harass the players. Lowest form of humanity irregardless
TIL Malik Monk and K'Von Huerter are my favorite players.
What’s he upset about, his PAR was 23.5 for +110 on the over against Portland.
My man went OFF last night. Did his job.
Before game 1 of last years finals, ESPNs entire pregame coverage was just asking what players will hit which of their over unders. That was it. We had the first ever play-in to finals team with an elite and exotic defense going against the most dominant offensive player in the game and all they wanna ask is if jamal Murray is gonna hit 5 assists or not
He's getting cooked lmao
Reminds me when someone was shit talking Captain Jack years ago that he was killing their fantasy team and his response was “Fuk yo team clown” 🤣
I fucking love sports betting and its the reason I watch so many games. It's made me a better student of the game and got me to watch and appreciate great players in smaller markets I probably wouldnt have watched. That said, it's so gross how much it's advertised in the modern NBA. The advertising of it needs to be severely regulated and stripped down, like they did in Canada. It creates appearances of impropriety.
I think it’s okay that it’s legal. I have a problem with all the advertising.
I was sitting in $200 seats at Barclays and 3 dudes in my section were on their phones gambling. It was nuts. We were reacting to the game, they were reacting to their phones. In the middle of a dead ball a random "Oh, fuck" would ring out.
Like, why even come to the game if you're just gonna do that?
The worst is how it’s taken over tik tok/social media as well as professional media. Sportsnet in Canada will have entire ass segments on whether pascal will get more than 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 3s or some shit
Sports Channels and Podcasts shoving gambling promotions down our throats definitely doesn’t help
You should see what’s going on in the NHL if you don’t know, Shane Pinto was suspended half the season for proxy gambling I think it ended up being. What makes it ironic is Bet99 is a sponsor of the team, and literally while reporters are talking about it on TV they’re showing the ML for the games on that day.
I love betting, so do all my friends, but we all know if we make the wrong bet and something loses, it is what it is, no need to yell at players and shit. Don’t bet if you start harassing players bc you need a win.
If I was an athlete I’d embrace gambling, fantasy, etc. those that lean into it would gain so much popularity and lead to advertising and ultimately money for them. Even if they don’t actually care, just act like you do and you’ll sell more jerseys, get more endorsement, fans will love you
And I don’t care about him unless he’s in one of my parlays. Respectfully.
That’s how I feel when people post their gambling comments on this subreddit. Fuck off
I place a small bet every now and then, but I completely agree that betting shouldn’t be openly advertised by the league or any of its major reporters like Shams.
they shouldnt listen to the haters. theyve been hitting their unders on my parlays everytime!
I have a question about betting that hopefully someone can answer. Sports betting is illegal here Georgia, but for some reason we can use PrizePicks and do parlays on players overs and unders. If you get 6 out of 6, you get like 25Xs your wager.
My question is, is that the same rate of return with a legit sports book in Vegas? I have a hunch you make way more in a legit casino where full sports betting is legal.
I did it for a few months when it finally became legal in NY. The rush of hitting a bet was great but the despair of losing it especially by a small margin was absolutely gutwrenching. Jokes aside, it ruined my enjoyment of watching sports. When I realized this, I just played myself out and was done with it. I did cave on like opening weekend playing a small $20 because screw it why not? I spread it across a few games but I lost everything and was reminded why I stopped in the first place. I
just want to enjoy my hobbies as they're a source of stress relief.
As he shouldn't. If you bet you bet. I bet from time to time and if i don't win i get a little frustrated but it's like any other gambling. You lose what you can afford. But what player should be caring about a parlay of someone they don't know, hell even if they did know them
This^^^ if you bet on any sport you’re just as dumb as the people promoting the idea of betting on sports
Sports betting has sort've taken over. Just look at all the commercials now.
Malik Monk … star… in same sentence
My parlays don’t care about Monk mediocre ass either so that works
How is this news? Yall thought he did?
Gambling and fantasy can be an addiction, and I hate the ads but gambling/fantasy are also a great source of entertainment and really elevates sports. I could less about most teams except the one in my state or the top 5 each sport if I had no action.
Its not like sports themsleves are great. Just look at the Giannis ejection. Or how bad games are if you actually look at the numbers. Yall complain but just accept it and still watch the sport. How can you support a prodcut with such dumb refs or players dont even do their job?
I hate listening to Simmons talk about parlays.
You damn well know that people are in here complaining about gambling because it ruins the fan experience while also being in 5 different fantasy football leagues and screaming for one team to score, but not with 2 specific players and only in the first half.
Fantasy sports (and not even solely the ones people wager money on) did this well before bet gambling came to our mobile phones.
Bro ain’t nobody loading up draft kings for Huerter and Monk overs 😂
This is the right and normal reaction.
Like we are really in some weird and dark times. Do people know how easily players could manipulate betting lines if they wanted to?! Do you really want players fully cognizant and participatory of over unders, point lines, etc .
Yet people (casual fans) are realllly pushing players to embrace betting. It’s a setup. If players embraced gambling like fans allegedly want them to its a scandal waiting to happen
Oh no!! Whatever will we do!
It’s kinda weird that the nba is sponsored by multiple betting sites
When we get that awkward mid-season TNT lineup with Lefkoe and the B team each year I can’t help but throw up in my mouth at him simping the gamble.
Refs: And I took that personally

But what about his own parlay?
This is why I’m glad my religion forbids gambling. I know that I would make myself angry after convincing myself of a sure bet

As someone who recently delved into sports gambling only legal in my state last year or so, I did think looking at some of the bets you can place and thought man it’s kinda fucked up for players. I mean they make so much money but it’s gotta be annoying to hear ppl tell you you cost them money and what not.
If you bet on sports that’s on you for doing so I wouldn’t ever tell a player something like that in my life. In general you should probably stay away from it for your own good, I do have pretty good self control and only bet small amounts for fun it’s money I can easily lose.
Journalism
Gambling should just be outright illegal as it does nothing but negative things to society but it's 2023 so we're just gonna embrace the shittiest possible timeline and do everything wrong.
