This is my Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune. I was fortunate enough to pick up this watch which as been my grail during my recent stay in Japan.

As the name of the watch states it's a fifty fathoms dive watch which also contains a complete calendar along with the iconic Blancpain smiling moonphase face. This is my first luxury watch in this price range and the craftsmanship and quality has just blown me away.

Originally I was afraid of the size since it's a 43mm case diameter, but it actually sits quite nicely on my wrist especially with the comfortable and durable sailcloth strap.

That's a nice Swatch!

I also really love this watch, but I'd like a watch on a bracelet if I am going to drop so much money on a watch. Any reason you opted for the sailcloth strap rather than the bracelet? I especially liked the X-70 bracelet which they don't provide as an option anymore.

I actually got this gray market used from the famous Nakano Broadway area in Japan so I was able to snag this for a steep discount around $12,000 CAD. I didn't see any models with bracelets and for the price I couldn't resist picking one up with the sail cloth band.

The metal bracelet does look amazing though so I'm probably going to try getting one in the future so I can mix it up. Do you know if Blancpain directly sells them if I went to an AD or boutique, or would I have to search used?

It surprises me a bit that moon phase doesn’t show up on dive or other “aquatic” themed watches that often. You can estimate tide timing if you know the moon phase, and I’m hard pressed to think of any other use for the moon phase unless you’re like a witch or something.

Love this watch. Did you happen to get the bracelet as well?

Also, I'm glad you said it doesn't wear too big, as that has been my hesitation on trying to get one, even though I have pretty large wrists. How big are your wrists?

Sadly I did not get the bracelet. Eventually in the future I think I'll look to pick up a bracelet for it. Unsure if AD or boutique would sell them or if I'd have to go second hand to pick one up. If you know let me know haha.

My wrists are only 17cm when wearing down the wrist bone so maybe a little larger where I wear it further up. Honestly I don't mind if it looks a little large because I just love the watch so much. I'll probably start hitting the gym more to bulk up my wrists with what little difference that may make.

Here's a shot of it on my wrist. https://imgur.com/gallery/TVwkwbK

Yeah not entirely sure either for after-market bracelet. I would think you would have to order through boutique/AD. I had to do that to get the NATO for my NTTD Seamaster.

And the watch looks good on your wrist! And my wrist is like an inch bigger than yours, so my fear of it looking too big is gone. Thanks for the pic. Definitely still may be a while until I can make the purchase. In the last 2.5 years I bought my Zenith Chronomaster Sport and NTTD Seamaster, so my wife would probably kill me (and my bank account would definitely hurt)! Oh crap I also bought a Ming 37.07 Monolith and an Anordain GMT. Yeah definitely need to wait lol.

Does the moon phase set automatically when setting the date? Never had a moon phase watch before. Beautiful watch.

Thanks!

There are 4 actuator buttons located on the sides of the watch, one at each intercardinal direction. Simply push using the metal rod they provided or toothpick to set the date, day, month, or moonphase.

Otherwise if manually winding the time using the crown, it works perfectly!
