This is from Pop Culture Detective, so it's written from the perspective of how this false theory pervades narratives throughout television and film. Its surprisingly common, unfortunately.

If wr follow the rules of science, alpha are super weak and don't last long

If we folllow the rules of software development, alpha are buggy releases that show basic functionality but require a lot of additional work before they are ready.
