Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

We really need to make false arrests a criminal offense

[–] w3dd1e@lemm.ee 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Seems like a form of kidnapping to me.

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 9 points 1 day ago

And human trafficking, depending on what they do after the arrest.

But that doesn't cover all wrongful arrests. Ive been arrested several times, and every time it was a wrongful arrest. I had to fight it in court and won freedom, but the police who arrested me will never face justice because they didn't commit a crime. We need to make it criminal.

If trump isn’t going to be held accountable for these abuses, the agents carrying out these arrests should. Start arresting and charging ice agents

This has nothing to do with immigration and everything to do with intimidation. Immigration is just the excuse here, the message is we can take anyone anywhere even your congressional office. Fall in line or we will come for you.

Arrested for "harboring rioters" who blocked traffic. That's not even close to a crime.

[–] dirthawker0@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Blocking traffic, as much as it is a pita to drivers, is not rioting. It's a peaceful protest and well within 1A.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's at worst a civil offense like a parking ticket.

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Parking tickets are civil offenses?

Traffic tickets blur the line between the civil/criminal courts. Especially in my state, where both speeding and the lowest level of assault will put you before the same judge. Since the lowest criminal charges don't carry potential for jail time, even in the effect they have it's difficult to tease out their differences.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Yeah, civil as opposed to criminal.

Lemmy guess, democratic congressman's office was invaded and excessive use of force was the cherry on top?

Hey, look at that! I was right!

[–] MolecularCactus1324@lemmy.world 37 points 2 days ago

American gestapo

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 28 points 2 days ago

I'm GLAD we Didn't make Lawful Behavior POLITICAL!

-Literally EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT IN OFFICE!

[–] breezeblock@lemm.ee 27 points 2 days ago

And you’re next!

[–] DeLancre@feddit.org 25 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Wtf? Why is there no comment by the Democratic Party? They should be furious

[–] eestileib@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 day ago

Because the Democratic Party are also owned by fascists.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

They used to at least pretend to be furious. We need to demand they go back to at least pretending. This calls for a very strong letter. Someone get me our fearless leader, Chuck Shumer. And lets put in a call to AIPAC to get their permission to write this.

[–] fedupwithbureaucracy@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

You can attack police if they attack you. These fuckers need consequences

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Assaulting an officer carries more severe consequences though. So keep that in mind when you do, and make sure it's worth it. If you know what I mean.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If everyone did it, it would be unenforceable

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not even that many. All it takes is a solid majority. That's of course why they keep us fighting eachother.

[–] GoodLuckToFriends@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

solid minority, really. Isn't the 'revolution' numbers often quoted at 1% fighting, 3% support?

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Revolutions don't tend to work out long term. Ask an American how that American Revolution is working out for them. The French too for that matter. Though they are handling things better. Russia, China, and Korea went from under one boot, to being under the boot of the former revolutionaries.

Until people in general find things like massive wealth disparity disgusting. Taking back the stolen wealth and telling the people who would steal it again that they won't stand for it. Every Revolution is just going to be re-corrupted. But if Society at large did that . There would be no revolution. Or need for revolution. There would be no place the thieves could hide. No force they could amass that would keep them safe.

[–] notfromhere@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

Sounds like they are refusing to show ID in a lot of cases (not sure if they refused here), so they are likely private citizens masquerading as officers.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 17 points 2 days ago

You “can” do anything at any time. Consequences still exist tho, especially if you arent a member of the correct group.
