I agree with the criticism but I still throw it on as part of my Hulu rotation out of habit more than anything else. It's fine and I get a few laughs out of it. I don't expect all my entertainment to be S tier. I actually really like some of the episodes where Brian and Stewie have a good story together and the cutaways and stuff are minimized.

[–] twiddlebug74@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Their cutaways used to be funny when they alluded to a topic and let the scene play out. Not only did the writers start describing the exact scenario that would play out, but they also started giving away the punchline. The cutaways became a recap of what was said just 10 seconds earlier.

Yeah its trash. The cutaways nowadays are manageable but peter as a character is just awful. It sucks that he is the focus of most episodes. Obviously the brian and stewie episodes are the best. Honestly i like pretty much every character besides peter

Personally I like both shows. I mean south park is kinda better but I still like both shows. They're still not my favorite shows (but South Park is definitely top 10.)

I enjoyed the first 4 or 5 seasons of family guy as a teenager. And there's still gags that I think are hilarious, like the Adam West cameos. And I loved all the little nostalgia throwbacks but that might just be because of my age. But as the show grew, I liked it less and less. Whereas I've never stopped watching Southpark, I don't enjoy the newer episodes quite as much as I used to. But I still love Southpark and think Matt and Trey are much better writers.

I love all adult animations. For me it goes in this order South Park #1 Simpsons #2 Rick and Morty #3 American Dad # 4 Futurama # 5 Family Guy #6 Solar opposites #7 And the list goes on

Way to jump on the bandwagon 15 years later lol no but you’re right, season 1-3 was really good. The rest is bad.

[–] tucakeane@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Family Guy isn’t a show you watch to make you think or feel anything.

Not saying it’s good or bad, just saying it’s got its place.

[–] AnIrishMexican@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I actually always enjoyed FG. South Park was first though, I got into FG around season 3 or so. Had just started smoking herb, the random joke structure with the random callbacks were great, but not very re watchable after a certain point. Now American Dad however has way better writing and has actual character development as well as plots that flow.

Family guy used to be funny as hell, but it seems they changed writers a number of years ago and the humor SUCKS now.

These two televisions shows either depict the average American dilema through esotericism or depict the memorable particularities of current events through mundane realism…

[–] cortisolbath@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t see why they don’t do a Matt and Trey cutaway in revenge. I think Seth was too hurt to seriously take advantage.

[–] ThePizzaNoid@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Eh. I like Family Guy okay but I don't think it has ever approached the highs of South Park.

[–] Crade_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Idgaf, I laugh. It's good.

[–] Power_of_Atturdy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

First 3 seasons were class. Beyond that, as Seth stepped away the show became a caricature of itself.

[–] ashesx_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I like family guy. It's definitely just cut away jokes constantly but that and American dad still have some great laughs available.. It's just not as brilliant or anywhere near as intelligent as Southpark (imo). Doesn't mean it doesn't have some hilarious jokes and moments

[–] ZakJR98@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

"I'm American we like to crap on each other!"

[–] FireCloud42@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

First(ish) seasons where ok but the formula got old and the jokes where meh

[–] Hour-Comfort-6191@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The problem with Family Guy is that after the first few season it became a show of utter nonsense, with no narrative cohesion, as South Park satirized. It became just “people doing stuff.”

[–] MonkeysUncleDesign@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Family Guy is modern day All in the Family, Honeymooners, and a bunch of other old sitcoms. The offensive remarks or jokes are the things we think about but would NEVER say. Nothing is sacred, everything is fair game. Perhaps the shock valve is too much for some but i guess in reality the truth hurts. Do they go too far at times? Absolutely!!

[–] Prof_Tickles@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What’s funnier is that they didn’t have to do this. Matt & Trey woke up one day and decided to be haters.

[–] Agent101g@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I mean, family guy has that but south park has “we’re addressing a current political issue. Do you, the viewer, understand which issue it is? Good. Get ready to hear it on repeat, with every joke soaked in it, for 22 minutes.”

Some episodes have less of a message or stress it more lightly, and those are imo the best episodes, but some are just flat out too preachy. I get it, there are idiots on both sides. Do comedy.

Fortunately for them when they DO decide to do comedy they do such a great job that it makes up for all the downsides.

When I’ve had a long week and gets stoned out of my mind it’s my favorite thing to put on. The manatees just know good vibes.

[–] noface8137@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I like family guy

[–] Skeptickler@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Early Family Guy was much more clever.

[–] TheShakenGrimace@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I love classic FG but not so much after Seth stopped writing. Same complaints as everyone, characters drastically changing from originals, etc.

Except I LOVE the cutaways, they're supposed to be irrelevant confabulatory nonsense cococted in the mind of a childish, daydreaming drunk.

And I don't object to it not "going anywhere" , going somewhere is what ruined the Simpsons. Now Homer and Marge met in the 90s, FFS. By contrast Bonnie being pregnant since 1996 was f------g hilarious.

[–] Jaysinnin@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Used to love Family Guy but South Park ruined it and I also just got older and didn’t find as funny as used to. Some jokes still slap.

[–] VoluntarilyBroken@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's too random and of bad taste. Although sometimes funny it feels like pelagic mammals could have written it.

[–] killbydeath87@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I disagree with them...mostly because I don't care about plot with my cartoons mostly and just want to laugh.

I find even crappy family guy will still give me one slight chuckle which is more I can say for South park these days

I like Family Guy

[–] DepressedNoble@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I have tried watching family guy so many times ..but I don't find it funny ..I hate how stupid peter is honestly..it's just not my kind of show...

[–] Ok_Examination8252@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I hate family guy.
