News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.
Does that get rid of che comment history?
They legally have to delete basically all content you provided unless they want to filter it manually and are open to legislation
It deletes your name from the content
It's perfect, Reddit gets to ban you and doom you to infinitely scrolling the site, while simultaneously milking engagement from your old posts!
Edit them
Did Reddit ever claim to remove threads and comments while banning someone? No. What did you expect? People are actually actively seeking for methods to remove all their messages and here you are: "People! Reddit doesn't remove your messages when ban you!" Yes, we know.
I do not believe reddit ever claimed not to.
Encountering enough u/deleted with [removed by reddit] would certainly lead people to believe that they are definitely capable of removing any trace of a user from the site
Just from a basic technical perspective it seems like it would be pretty easy to delete everything from any one particular originator
Doesn't even seem to be a particularly difficult thing to do in general
Not entirely sure why theat seems so odd
What did I expect?
If a user did something so egregious that a sitewide ban for cause is warranted then it makes perfect sense that their content would be ejected as well
In my case I did absolutely nothing to warrant a sitewide ban. As a user of 10+ years I was well aware of the rules and conducted myself as such.
If they're just randomly purgining users then it would make even more sense to remove their content as well as to not leave a lasting reminder of what they did
I was genuinely surprised to find my content still up and available since they can't seem to even bother responding to my appeal request. Certainly made their action feel permanent
Well, the OP didn't know.
And since it's banning people from posting new content, it would make sense to delete the old content too. Well, not on reddit devs minds, but it would be a perfectly coherent idea.
Have you ever seen this behaviour anywhere? Ban is ban and has nothing to do with messages. At least I never saw or even heard about any forum/whatever to remove all messages while banning someone.
