Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

i've been using Nas for a few years, it's Arch Linux with BTRFS raids.

but i don't necessarily need it to be online and feels kinda wasting running it 24/7.

also don't wanna deal with the electricity stuff too.

so what i'm thinking is just running a mini pc for dockers that runs 24/7 with a small ssd. and then use the hdds(i have 7.) separately.

how do you manage offline hdd backups?

i'm thinking just connect the btrfs raids to Linux pc i have and just power it on when i need to backup to them and disconnect the cables when not using for a long term.

I'm interested too . There has to still be a market for DAS units.
