That's why some people have been modifying their comments entirely (and then deleting them).
News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.
This is what worked for me
Something is working because I've been sent to a few subreddits from search and half of the answers were gone. Made me happy that it stuck sometimes.
If you live in the EU maybe requesting full deletion of your account helps.
Unfortunately, they have no obligation to remove individual posts/comments unless they contain personally identifying information (iirc).
I've been manually deleting them, boring process for sure, but no restoring has been made.
I got like 15,000 comments tho.
I did the same two years ago. All content still deleted.
Wanted to make sure my deletions are not caught by some automated system so deleted posts and comments manually over the span of two weeks whenever I was waiting for something / had time.
Edit: added that this was 2 years ago
Do they delete them, or overwrite them?
Try overwriting instead.
That stopped working ages ago. They have everything backed up in a data base. It's suspected they always had it so all those apps that would go and scramble you texts into nonsense didn't matter since they could just sell the backups to llm and whoever else.
It's widely accepted anything you typed into that website is saved in its entirety and by version
We also have claims of Reddit restoring scrambled AND deleted comments back to the original comment?
It's not that it's restored to original in the public facing reddit. Just that they have it and can sell it in its original form. Your web facing account only matters to web scrapers.
It's not that it undeletes them, but that it keeps some of your comments unreachable. Every few months it re-indexes stuff and then with everything that was reachable before being deleted, it shows a different set of comments.
You can see more comments if you access the list with different params. For example, after deleting all your comments sorted by top score, you can access them sorted by controversial and you'll see a whole other list of comments still there.
I'm assuming there's a way to edit all your comments to say "Fuck Reddit" before deleting them.
Have you tried another deletion tool to make sure it's not just a problem with the one you're using?
The x89 python shreddit on github has worked for me, but it is a bit out of date and needs a little bit of tweaking to function. There is a new version (also on github) written in rust that also might work.
