Chet should be one. Ausar just needs a decent jump shot ; wemby i guess to shoot better

[–] maxi-916@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No matter how efficient and closely the stats are . Wemby is above Chet per narrative and the nba

Damn Hawkins 2nd in rookie points pts scored and barely gets mentions

Ausar Thompson is a star in the making. Dude is elite on defense already and a beast on the boards.

Dereck Lively is huge for the Mavs.

Also, Cason Wallace should be in the top-10.

I think a defensive star is exactly what Detroit needs. If Cade figures his shot out and they fill some decent veterans in you've got a fun team.

Jaquez better 🥱

Over the moon thrilled with what Lively has shown so far. Feels like the Mavs have their starting center for the foreseeable future.

Feels like the discussion about the ROY this year is going to be both super controversial and really not interesting. People comparing win shares and a bunch of random stats to push their arguments , and using strawman arguments for Chet or Wemby. It feels like that's the only thing that matters now. Might as well watch a box score instead of watching the games , as I suspect a ton of people are already doing here.

OKC fans in shambles

This rookie class is stacked af. It’s got potential to turn into two different generational talents, a DPOY/All-NBA guy, and another handful of All Stars/borderline All-NBA players.

Who was that guy that was supposed to go like 7th but dropped to 20th bc of attitude or injuries?

Jordan Hawkins sounds like a 90’s legend

I’m seeing a whole lot of “Ik Chet has better teammates but he’s still better” and I’m sorry y’all can say whatever you want but for a second actually imagine Wemby with SGA, Jdub, Giddey, and Dort. You really think he’s not affecting winning as much as Chet? 50+% from 3 is a lot to expect, but based off how good his shot looks now, if he’s taking ~75% of his 3’s wide open and set up by his teammates instead of creating the majority of them himself, you rlly think he’s shooting 28% still?

Then defensively he’s maybe slightly less polished than Chet, but 1) who’s to say that would look the same with much better perimeter defenders like Dort, Cason, SGA and even Jdub (compared to San Antonio’s defenders) and 2) even with the lack of polish, his mere presence and ability to warp the court with his closeouts puts him maybe already above Chet in overall impact on that end.

I think a lot of you guys are underrating the thunder’s squad in terms of its impact on Chet’s play. Or maybe not realizing just how dogshit SA’s is overall. Thunder have 4 non Chet guys better than the spurs’ next best player (I suppose Vassell vs Giddey or Dort is an interesting topic, but as of now I’d simply put both of them over him due to playmaking for Giddey and top of the league level defense for Dort- and he can apparently shoot lights out now), and even then, vassel’s been half the season so far, and the dropoff after vassell is a chasm

Chet should be #1

[–] shahsnow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Don’t sleep on J Hawk

[–] RGPISGOOD@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

In case anyone thinks Chet will win over Wemby. Just look at NBA.com and Espn, where most of the voters will be from. Afaik, the award is already locked up by Wemby because of the media narrative.

[–] dkleckner88@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Chet should be the clear favorite. OKC is good and he's a big part of their defense.

[–] mojojojo1108@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m not sure if a rookie who also plays alongside a legit start will ever be able to win ROY, even in a non-Wemby year. The narrative can always be (whether fairly or not) that they won’t be rewarded for producing alongside a much superior player who allows them to do so. I’d have to do some research to verify but to this point, no one’s coming to mind like that.

[–] dbzmah@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Is this the best rookie class since 2018?

[–] absurdizzm@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I got Chet. He has been way more efficient than Wemby. Obviously Wemby has the bigger upside, but Chet is bringing it right now.

[–] thisisuser47@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You guys remember that scoot dude..? Me neither

[–] Diligent-Software-26@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m so glad Hawkins has been playing well.
