Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

This is actually a dope album cover. Anyone wanna start a FOSS-computing-themed band?

    [–] hansolo@lemmy.today 16 points 10 months ago (2 children)

    I would buy this album.

    And I'll play the harmonica.

    [–] kayzeekayzee@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I'll also play the harmonica but worse

    [–] hansolo@lemmy.today 13 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Oh, I never said I would play it well.

    [–] Valmond@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Remember, there is harm in harmonica.

I'll learn the theremin for this effort

    Systemd of a down

    [–] sanderium@lemmy.zip 32 points 10 months ago (2 children)

perhaps because its a similar experience as installing Arch?

    [–] mrcleanup@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I don't get it. I have Garuda, which is Arch, and it was super easy to install. Maybe raw dogging Arch is harder?

    [–] joyjoy@lemmy.zip 11 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Not since they added the installarch command to the ISO.

    [–] 474D@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I think you mean archinstall, and while it is amazing, it's nothing compared to those "pre-configured" arch distros. It'll get you up and running but there's still a lot of work to be done to just use it normally

    [–] joyjoy@lemmy.zip 4 points 10 months ago

This is the reason I switched to EndeavourOS.

    [–] the_wiz@feddit.org 2 points 10 months ago

I don't get it... Arch install is pretty straight forward?!?

    [–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 28 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Maybe because Arch uses GNU tools (like most other Linux distributions).

It's close enough for a doodle.

    [–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 10 months ago

    That's what she said.

Because it's strong and powerful but it's hard to keep from crashing?

(I've never used Arch, and really have no idea how true that is)

    [–] annoyed_onion@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

Based on past experience, fairly truthful.

    [–] xia@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 10 months ago

The beast and rider vaguely make up the "A" shape of the Arch Linux logo.

    [–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Maybe the image is of an arched ibex?

    [–] EfreetSK@lemmy.world -1 points 10 months ago

Because Arch is at best comparable to sport fandom, at worst to religious cult. And fans/cultists do these kinds of things
