Why not just make the dial from that gold ?

[–] networkwizard0@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s worth what it’s worth to you emotionally.

That's really cool! I own something similar but my bar is part of the middle! Very cool watch

[–] OpiWanKanoppi@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah I've seen a few of those. Thanks

[–] nycrunner91@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Even if it isnt “worth money” , this watch is so beautiful and cool!

[–] Euclidding_Me@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Maybe it's a Swiss thing, but I was at the Victorinox store in Zurich last month and there was a mini pocket knife with a gram of gold embedded into the plastic handle. Very much like the dial of this watch.

The store employee said, if you're every strapped for money with this knife at least you always know you've got a gram of gold as backup.

Cool piece!

[–] TheRedKingRM22@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

May not be worth much but man that’s a cool piece

[–] handaids@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Strange. I wasn’t able to find any information on the Watch brand, but when k searched for “credit Susie gold watch”, a lot of unknown Swiss brands seem to produce inexpensive watches with an ounce of gold embedded in the dial. Judging from the names of the brands and the movements used in the watches, my best guess would be that the the practice of embedding cheap quartz watches is done to make otherwise inexpensive, relatively cheaply made watches more desirable by ensuring they always retain some sort of resale value. I’d never heard of this practice until now and I think it’s a really neat gift from grandpa. Wear it in good health, I hope this helped a little.

Awesome down this rabbit hole I go

I found a reference to a possibly defunct Criterium investment fund; this might have a promo item for them.

[–] 123550@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I was thinking something like this or perhaps a length of service gift; Credit Suisse used to be into those.

[–] BusDriverUppercut@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I can't give you any information on the watch, but the little gold bar is a hilarious flex! Very fun.

Post in r/Gold

[–] Awkward-Sale4235@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

you will never find another like it, tjose are custom made. any pictures of the back and or movement?

[–] Addicted-2Diving@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Grandpa was a baller. With taking into account the value of gold, I’d guess it being worth $200, but since it’s a personal item from a family member it’s clearly worth more than that. I’d personally have put on a strap or wear it as is. Neat watch

[–] namrock23@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Crosspost this with r/gold, they'd get a kick out of it

[–] Addicted-2Diving@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

8-10 are the golden hours 😉

[–] kortisol@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yo dawg, I hear you like gold, so I put some gold inside your gold watch so you can see gold while you see your gold watch

[–] LevySandrarfff@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Beastly work you have here.

[–] OpiWanKanoppi@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It sure is unique, thanks

[–] Nervous_Green4783@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Might even rise in value since Credit Suisse was just recently discontinued by UBS

[–] Disarryonno@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Very unique

[–] ashpash64@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It'll be quite a cool piece or memorabilia when Credit Suisse ceases to exist in the near future.

[–] 415Cars@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Interested in selling?

[–] prince0fbabyl0n@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Very cool, I have never seen anything like this before, enjoy and remember your grandfather

[–] AzureArmageddon@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The Credit Suisse logo is the hilarious cherry on top of this ridiculous, funky cake.

[–] BlackGlenCoco@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I couldnt find anything on the watch, but my guess is, its a Swiss Plot to implicate people with selling them Nazi gold.

The internet tells me that 1g of solid gold is a cube 3.7mm on a side. Now I'm curious how much gold it takes to electroplate a watch that size.

[–] Pseudowalker@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

For a 20 micron gold plating, assuming the caseback is stainless steel and it’s just the bezel/sides and lugs, something like ~0.01g

[–] charfoglio@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My guess is these watches were custom made for Credit Suisse to be given / gifted to employees as a token of appreciation / recognition.

This is based on what I have heard from someone who works for Credit Suisse (now UBS). Earlier Credit Suisse used to gift actual 1g gold bars to employees as token of appreciations and recognition. Later on they stopped giving actual gold bars but the award / certificate (with no monetary value) was still given as recognition for going above an beyond. The person telling me the story received 3 gold bars (the worthless virtual ones) this year from Credit Suisse (before it was taken over by UBS).

Did your Grandfather ever work for Credit Suisse or knew someone who did?

[–] yumstheman@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s gaudy in the absolute best way 😂

[–] BeefEDC@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] Atlienxx@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The fact that you can’t find another should tell you everything. Put that in a safe somewhere

[–] Tiny-Victory5515@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

See, the first thing that I thought of was Christopher Walken talking about how he carried this watch inside his ass for 7 years in a POW camp...

[–] Patient_Fox_6594@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The gold is worth about $63.68 atm. If you sold it, maybe get 90% of the value at max, since it's pure. Uncertain.

[–] bcell4u@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Criterium? GOLD.

[–] Reddwheels@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Credit Suisse is a Swiss Investment Banking Firm that, among other things, is known for its high-purity gold bars which you can buy as an investment.

[–] evoluption@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What a statement dial. Looking odd, definitely. Looking super cool, absolutely

[–] God_Despises_MAGA@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That is a damn cool watch! Refurbish and wear!

[–] DoMidgetsHaveTails@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Damn, that watch is worth it’s weight in gold

[–] ZealousidealResort91@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Best I can do is three fifty in monopoly dollar

[–] vdub6541@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Look up the Corum Ingot. Crazy piece.
