The watch community seems rather disdainful of both of them overall. Flawed watches for high prices is my impression of the general discontent with them.

As far as I know, the only way to buy these is imported by a gray market dealer. I think I may have had a Lorus decades ago, so at one time they were in the US? Thanks.

I've read that some are cheap plastic, some are made of composites and used in higher end movements. Apparently plastic has less friction than metal. Plastic gears leach oil as they age, adding self-lubricating? I know there are very poor quality metal gear trains, but wasn't aware of high quality plastic/composite gear trains. Thanks.

Damn, grew up in Mass., and blew the remaining dregs of my watch money yesterday.

What would the repair fee range be for a Starking automatic that's never run? Crown goes "whirr," doesn't wind the mainspring, and I can adjust the hands fine. Thanks.

[Discussion] A suggestion on endless watch identification posts (alien.top)
 

Since this has become possibly a majority of the posts on r/Watches at times, I suggest creating another subreddit for watch identification, maybe r / WatchID or r / WatchIdentification. I've noticed that people seem to be growing frustrated with this "ID my watch posts," and it might be easier for people who are into ID'g watches to have a separate subreddit to keep track of things. I think ID'ing a watch is just a separate category; it's not about watches, it's learning what the watch is so you can then talk about it.

They seem to have made an Electra line, and at least one with the label says "Swiss Made" on it: https://shopgoodwill.com/item/184124510

I thought it was a fake, but at least one person on here said that "Longine" was a real brand. The Goodwill responded to me with:

Hi, this item is from a lower brand made around the same time period as Longines and is not counterfeit.

Obviously, "same time period" covers pretty much everything and everyone. Thanks.

Well, it does have a battery, it's just charged by light. It will eventually need replacement.

Way too big, unless you have an 8" plus wrist.

Edit: Most non-watch people would think that's expensive, and almost none of my watches cost me that much.

Where is Armitron? They're the little still American watch brand that often can.

I know actual upper-middle class professional people. Know what they wear? Stuff like low-end Timex and low-end Citizen. They'd find a low-end Tissot extravagant, and have no idea what is more expensive than a Rolex.

The gold is worth about $63.68 atm. If you sold it, maybe get 90% of the value at max, since it's pure. Uncertain.
