This doesn't include post season stats either.

Luck was sacked 11 times in his whole playoff career (8 games), Burrow has been sacked 29 times in the playoffs (7 games)

Revisionist history. But until Burrow was drafted. Bengals o line was consistently talked about being bottom 5 year over year. Burrow just hid that shit better than Dalton. (Not really, 2 season ending injuries in 4 years get fucked).

[–] xbearsandporschesx@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The NFL should just allow O-line and D-line players to be the only positions allowed, nay encouraged, to take roids.

[–] Impossibills@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

While both their lines were/are bad, they occasionally hold the ball too long looking for plays.

Sacks are not just an OL stat

[–] Mrbeankc@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Burrow at this rate is going to make a run at Fran Tarkington's all time sacked record of 570. Likely though Russell Wilson will get there first. He currently has 512 with 30 so far this year.

[–] LtRicoWang15@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

2.84 sacks per game for Joe Burrow
2.09 sacks per game for Andrew Luck
2.02 sacks per game for Mac Jones

[–] SpaceAlbatr0ss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Luck wasn’t nearly as injury prone though. Cincy really needs to get this situated. Burrow has missed a full season in HS, FBS, and now 2x in the NFL but it’s the list of injuries that is crazy. He was injured twice during the SB run. Started the season injured and then finished off by this second major injury to the wrist on his throwing hand. If he keeps taking these beating he won’t live up to his potential let alone his contract.

[–] bigredmachine-75@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just curious, anyone got the average release times for Luck vs Burrow?

[–] Autumn_Mila1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Luck was hit 352 times in the first 3 years of his career alone (per the ringer). Burrow/ been hit 178 times so far in his career. Easy to cherry pick stats

[–] Xcells@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Helps that he missed so many games already in his short nfl career 🥸

[–] whodeyzeppelins@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I believe that's why he chose stats for Luck's first 3 years. Burrow has played an extra game each season and the stats he cited are for Burrow over 4 years. Burrow missed roughly half a season in 2020 and will again for 2023, which equates to roughly 3 full seasons.

Then there’s also the CRAZY idea that instead of making a gazillion dollars and being unable to walk at 35, QBs could settle for half a gazillion and the team could spend the money on All-Pro linemen.

Who was that guy for the Patriots a while back? I think it worked out okay for him…

[–] J4YMARS@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Qbs sacks are pretty consistent regardless of team or oline. Meaning qbs drive their sacks alot more than people give them credit. Obviously a bad oline doesn't help and makes it worse but someone who doesn't take sacks won't take alot of them compared to a qb that takes a lot regardless of the quality of oline. That being said taking as many as those guys definitely is determental to the longevity of their career.

[–] highastronaut@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

look all ill say is i remember the internet boys victory lapping on chase over sewell. interesting how it works out.

i have no dog in this fight, just an observation.

[–] Swarzey@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As great as Ja'Marr Chase is, not choosing Penei Sewell after Burrow knee got annihilated as a result of a poor OLine is probably going to haunt the Bengals for some time.

[–] WilliamCambridge79@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So you're saying that's it for Burrow? Retirement. He had a good run.

[–] billiam56@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So many times it seems like when the QB's get their big contract, they start getting the crap beat out of themselves on the field. Guess it becomes harder to pay for quality lineman...

[–] thehildabeast@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Sacks are a QB stat a lot of the time

[–] Miata_Sized_Schlong@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Is this play style sustainable 🤔

[–] Vonstarjam@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Well one went to the superbowl... so there's that

[–] blarch@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Unlike in British comedy, the people doing the sacking have not been sacked.

[–] APizzaChit@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Once again sacks are a qb stat

[–] nobleGAAS@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

At what point does the Bengals' O-Line problems become a coaching problem rather than personnel problem?

[–] Scapexghost@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What about his though

[–] milkstoutnitro@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

When it’s Sam howell sacks are a “qb stat” though.

[–] Nicetrybozo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] BirdyMRQZ@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

joe burrow simply holds onto the ball too long. granted, he was better last season, but in 2021 when they went to the super bowl he made his o-line look a lot worse than it was. he was one of the worst QBs at avoiding pressures-into-sacks.

[–] Own_Extreme_6316@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It just points out that Andrew Luck ended up suffering a ruptured spleen and then retiring from football after a relatively brief career. Joe Burrow is starting to see injuries pile up now, and could suffer the same fate. We in Indy thought Luck was strong and physical and counted on him to be here for us as long as Manning was. We have not been the same since he left. Cincinnati is in the same boat, and Joe doesn't even appear as physical or as strong as Luck was, although mentally every bit as tough. Cincy needs to protect this guy like he is their grandma back there because he IS their franchise! Draft or trade for a#1 offensive line!

Welcome aboard the CTE Special.

[–] heliostraveler@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

OBJr sucks ass. Tried to tell them.

[–] juicyj78@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Sacks are a QB stat.

[–] Phitmess213@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Reminds me of Matt Stafford while on Detroit

[–] teekay2085@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Luck ran more than Burrow has, though, which subjected him to worse hits from faster players

[–] Nexus369@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Remember when he told the Bengals to draft Chase?

[–] bionicjoe@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If the Bengals drafted Sewell instead of Chase they don't get close to the SB in 2021.
However they win the 2022 SB.

WRs are the most over-valued thing in all of sports.

[–] Rangertexas9@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Looks like we have a new Captain in The War.

[–] BuddhaDaddy88@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So many teams straight up slack on investing in an offensive line. Bitch about QB durability, baby the piss out of them, but don't pay for protection. These dudes aren't used to being blasted so often, they're more fragile than RBs and defensive players laying hit after hit. Teams know this but just don't seem to invest. He'll be lucky to last as long as Luck did. Luck might still be playing and be one of the all-time greatest by now if he didn't get trashed so much.

[–] Acrobatic_Garden_767@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That Chase/Sewell graph just looks rough every year

I know Chase is good but he needs Burrow alive

[–] CarsonWentzGOAT1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He needs to move around in the pocket

[–] ihatemcconaughey@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

RIP Joey B

Everyone was yelling to get him a line during year 1. Here we are 4 seasons later and has anything been done to address the line? Nope.

[–] BengalsPacersBuckeys@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We revamped the whole line clown

[–] RamRod013@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Burrow also plays against pretty consistently top defenses 6 times a year.

[–] WorthPlease@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Luck was a very tough QB but also knew how to find a throw when he was in trouble.

Burrow is very much a "I can probably dodge these two guys and make an even better throw" QB. He can do it a lot of the time, but he'll also take a lot more hits doing so.

[–] snarkysportsguy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Sam Howell coming for that record.

[–] AdSpecialist6598@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Get the dude and o-line asap or he'll be outta the NFL just as fast as luck if not faster.

[–] old_coot_1950@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What about the Texans first QB David Carr? What was his experience?

[–] Likemypups@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The important stat is how many head and neck injuries.

[–] BengalsPacersBuckeys@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

For anybody who is a causal and doesn’t know, our management tried to build a better o line. We’ve spent decent money and replaced nearly every person on the damn line. They’re better than the Super Bowl run, but still not that great though. Also burrow sometimes just doesn’t know how to throw the ball away and just takes a sack.

Some people just say shit without knowing anything. Talking about the ones who say we’re ruining burrow and shit like that when we’ve done everything we could do to help.

[–] BerkeleyFarmGirl@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Really sucks that the teams that get these #1 prospects usually don't have a functional O Line to protect the guys.

Luck was smart IMO to get out while he was still somewhat sane - he is back studying at Stanford and is coaching high school football.

[–] Carolina_Bobcats@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bryce Young has been sacked 658 times in 8 games… smdh
