next up: calling it a "concentration camp" is grounds to have your citizenship revoked

[–] DigitalTraveler42@lemmy.world 100 points 2 days ago (7 children)

Imagine getting murdered by the regime for saying "alligator auschwitz"

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 92 points 2 days ago (1 children)

take it seriously. fascist regimes wont' tolerate criticism, or mockery, or pointing out how fucking evil they are. the direction we're rapidly mimicking is north korea. btw fun fact: it's illegal to call it "north korea" in north korea; it's "democratic people's republic of korea," and south korea isn't called south korea, it's called "puppet regime"

"that could never happen in america!!!" too many people are still saying

while it's literally happening

[–] DigitalTraveler42@lemmy.world 49 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I feel like a boiling fn frog at this point.

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

you're not alone. it's so depressing, shit getting worse every single day. whatever "good" things are happening don't outweigh the fascism

[–] DigitalTraveler42@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm in my forties, and it just feels like we've been constantly losing ground since Obama left office, I'm just so frustrated by all of the apathy, corruption, and dishonesty, and have been since 2015.

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 10 points 2 days ago (4 children)

same. add to that, that everyone i try to talk to about this would rather pretend it's somehow going to get better, or that somehow "the law" will catch up to these fascists and stop them in their tracks.

i guess we've been conditioned to believe that the bad things will just go away if we just say 'this is fine'

the protests are a noble effort. but they've done nothing

[–] DigitalTraveler42@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

That Civil War movie from last year is looking pretty damn prophetic.

the year is 2025, a Chinese citizen responds to the Tiananmen Square copypasta with a picture of BB Vance and the Alligator Auschwitz copypasta. The American citizen's internet access is immediately cut off and they are ordered to lay face down outside where the Amazon Prime predator drone can see them to wait for an ICE collection crew.

“If you have one group of people who feels very comfortable that their citizenship is secure, they will feel much more comfortable being politically active,” she said. “And if you have another group of people who worries that if their political activity gets on the wrong side of somebody in power, that their lives and livelihoods might be vulnerable — that is a lesser citizenship. That is a reason why people might step back from political participation.”

And there it is, reduce resistance little by little, then eliminate everyone.

Second amendment looking like the only alternative.

I can't get over just how short sighted MAGA is... They give the president this power like it will never be used against them by the next Democrat president.

[–] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You think the democrats would actually do that? They’d make a big deal about how they won’t do that, because they are cowards. The only spine they ever grow is when their corporate owners tell them to. Other than that, they care about nothing but maintaining the status quo.

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Probably not, but one can hope

[–] InputZero@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I mean you can but it's foolish. What has the democratic party done to deserve your hope other than not be Trump?

[–] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

That’s fair

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Funny thing is. Republicans allow their red-ass state legislatures to gerrymander their districts, while democrats act so high and nobel implementing their "non-partisan" commissions to "draw fair districts".

The house is forever skewed in favor of the right wing unless democrats play dirty and also gerrymander the shit out of those seats.

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

They tried in New York the last time the maps were redrawn. If Dems really wanted to gerrymander New York, they could likely win every single district.

The courts shot that one down, and now New York is just heavily favored to Dems. The House would be majority Dems right now if not for that alone.

They even made us memorize this one in grade school:

  1. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Note that this says nothing about having to be a citizen for this to apply to you, either. And while we're at it, see also this.

[–] freshcow@lemmy.world 38 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well you see, congress isn't making a law, the executive branch is just doing blatantly illegal shit with impunity, because congress is full of spineless coward sellouts

Traitors, all of them.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 53 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Those who gain citizenship through unlawful means and endanger our national security will not maintain the benefits of being an American citizen

Lmao... Benefits? What exactly are those benefits? Not being on the receiving end of a bombing? Not having our country destabilized by a narcissist (we don't even get that benefit anymore). Having healthcare taken away? A secret police force take you away for wrongthink? Lol benefits of being an American....

[–] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 35 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Bruh what do you mean the best American benefit is living in a 3rd world country while giving your taxes to hardworking billionaires who use it to control you and blowing up brown kids in the Middle East

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Very true! I'm so ungrateful! :(

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago

Have you even said thank you?

[–] Gordito@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Only country in the world to tax based on citizenship instead of residency... Being forced to declare taxes as an expat is a hassle. What are these benefits they speak of??? I'd gladly give mine up if it wasn't such a hassle and so expensive to do so.

But I thought they were only going after people in the country illegally, I thought they were okay with immigration as long as they followed legal processes (sarcasm)

[–] Grumpyleb@lemmus.org 41 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well, you guys had a good run being a semi normal country. Now you're fucked.

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 28 points 2 days ago (1 children)

semi normal

Extremely generous thank you for that.

[–] Grumpyleb@lemmus.org 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No worries mate, you had a good run, all things come to an end and all that!. On a serious note I do empathise a bit for the normals among you. But as a recipient of some foreign policy freedom in the 80s by the USS new Jersey on Beirut, I wish I could be selective in whose face the leopards eat under this administration. Unfortunately I can't.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

You can advocate for allowing refugees against the regime.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 33 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This administration is traitorous and needs to be removed immediately. They are enemies of the American people and the American States themselves.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It’s not just the administration. Every republican, and many democrats in congress anre also supporting this.

[–] tehn00bi@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So like anyone not in the party will be excluded from society?

Citizenship? I think you mean Party Membership.

[–] Gordito@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I have three nationalities. Born in Argentina and was naturalized at 8 yrs old in the USA when my parents moved. Been living in Canada since 2000 and also a citizen. I am legally bound to declare taxes in the US, even if I never made a penny working there. Revoking citizenship is expensive and requires a lot of paperwork. Fuck you MAGA, fuck you Trump. Take my citizenship away, I'll gladly give it back. I'll save thousands per year not having to deal with your backwards ass-shit citizenship based tax laws.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

For most US citizens, losing citizenship means being stateless. Nobody will advocate for us when we're in CECOT

I had PRC Citizenship, then got US citizenship, PRC doesn't do Dual Citizenship, so I lost that.

Idk what the fuck is gonna happen to me. I know like 10 words in Mandarin. I'm not quite fond of the CCP (fucking hate then), so no way they'll even want me, this just mean I'm stateless.

Perhaps being stateless makes it easier for me to drive to Canada and beg for asylum? Go to EU maybe?

I'm gonna be famous as an airport resident like these people
