Now? This is technology from before 2010. If anything they'll be cutting more corners than the usual just to shave a few cents on a niche technology, like they're doing with the optical media.
Data Hoarder
We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.
Was this the L1Techs video? I think he's planning on doing a proper comparison/review of USB enclosures which would answer some questions.
Yup
SAS controller with external ports and a DAS enclosure will always be more reliable than USB. Can be had used for a very modest outlay.
I might trust thunderbolt at bit more, but I'd never trust USB with critical data.
