Was raised mormon in an area with not many Mormons.

Used to get asked all the time how accurate it was, I'd reply 'except for the bit with a rock and a hat pretty spot on'

20 years on and it turns out Trey and Matt knew my old faith better then I did

If you wish to learn more, The Book of Mormon has 9 Tony awards and it's not hard to find pirate videos.

[–] NormaJeans68Chariot@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

But if it rolls through your town, DEFINITELY go see it.

[–] fugue2005@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

it's also funny that the mormons appear to be able to take a joke, since they advertised in playbill "you've seen the play, now read the book"

Jesus christ has it really been that long. I remember the mormons in my town going absolutly bat shit when this aired😂

[–] MatureUsername69@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Then, the mormons actually heavily promoted/liked the Book of Mormon

[–] GoodOneWasTaken@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

[–] ConcentrateFast955@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

[–] nnp1989@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yikes, 20 years? Guess I might as well go find a walker and head to the old folks home.

[–] Turbophoto@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

A... Native... American...

[–] goon-and-goon@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

something feels super off about this.

I thought this came after the Trapped in the Closet which was a 2005 episode

[–] Shower_Slug@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I was the 100th upvote. If anyone tries to take credit for it, dont believe a word.

Anybody hook a brother up with an episode number? I'm too drunk to Google.

[–] Jersh90@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Dang this is a weird one. Remember clearly watching it in my parents basement with my brother. Life’s (rightfully) changed drastically since middle school, family has all since moved hours away and my brothers been gone for years. But we giggled at dum dum dum dum dum for weeks.

[–] _potato_padildo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This episode was the catalyst for me as a teenager to leaving the dum dum dum mormons

[–] Herptroid@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Stan's rant at the end of the ep broke so many goddamn shelves hahahaha

[–] hello-cthulhu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If I had to make a list of the 10 best South Park episodes... maybe even the top 5, I think this one would certainly be among them. It's just perfect, every beat.

[–] HyenaFalse3456@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

And in that 20 year span we've had a whole generation grow up, get their heads filled full of that nonsense and of course further propagate. Exactly what the world needs hey

[–] Cit246@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I learned so much about Mormonism from this episode!

[–] SuNamJamFrama69@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] Steveseriesofnumbers@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

From the first time I ever saw this, all I could think was that there were so many holes in this story...how did no one see through this, except, apparently, Lucy Harris?

[–] HippieSwag420@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Jesus Christ are you serious oh my God. There's no way. Oh my God i feel old holy shit

[–] Ineedredditforwork@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Has it really been 20 years?

Fuck me. I'm too old for this shit.

[–] ChadJones72@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Man that's a pretty ass background for South Park standards.

[–] rjohn2020@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I'm LDS and I absolutely love this episode and the Book of Mormon musical. Stone and Parker did a great job on both

[–] BaziliskBanana_666@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Joseph Smith was called a prophet

[–] cyanidewonder@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Also isn't Mormonism the correct religion to go to heaven in the South Park universe? Lmao
