Slight signs of wear

[–] Dalgan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s quartz, so it probably just needs a battery and It’ll be fine.

[–] Zanpa@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Well it's a quartz Seiko. Probably around the 80s if I had to guess, but there's really not enough info.

The case looks like it's in surprisingly good condition under all that crud. Is the green and white stuff inside the watch? Sadly that means the dial and hands will probably be quite damaged. The movement will probably be too far gone, but it should be pretty easy to find a replacement.

I think you could bring this watch back to life if you want, it would be a cool story. Take it apart, clean up the case, try to clean the dial and hands as well as you can and replace the movement. It will probably still look quite water damaged but would be in working condition.

If you want to see something cool done with it, you could try contacting this guy to.

Might be beyond saving, but the fire damaged Rolex in this video came out looking amazing.

[–] OkMarsupial4514@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Throw it back lol

[–] Marvins-Room@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Slight water damage

[–] iLikeSaints@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You should probably put it in a bowl of rice. Not to eat it, just to see what happens.

Score!

Bronze Patina and Turquoise green / Tiffany blue are right on trend at the moment.

Metaldetecting near Okinawa

You got a death wish OP? There is still so much artillery scattered over Okinawa.

[–] DamperPants5388@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My first thought too lol surprised I had to scroll to see it

[–] Thewaltham@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It'll need a new movement for sure, but if you really carefully polished and cleaned it the patina might actually end up looking pretty cool. Especially the dial. Not sure if the case could be saved though.

[–] exclusive_muppet@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wow, ultra rare Seiko Coral.

[–] Nashiwa@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I'm not an expert, but I think you might have some light water damage there my good sir

[–] GeneralMachete@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I would put this in a transparent resin block and enjoy this on my desk for the rest of my life

[–] EarlDukePROD@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Exactly my thoughts

Patina to die for. In yon shoes I'd get a couple o new spring bars and a nato strap then wear it as is, that would be unbelievably cool. Hope yon enjoys wearing this in good health for many decades to come.

Nice to see something that wasn’t inherited from a dead relative for a change

[–] dunneetiger@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You can sell this as barely used on ebay.

[–] WhoArtThyI@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Sack of rice bro. Trust me.

[–] mrex0112@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can you post an update in a few days?

[–] KingsCake@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

A little polywatch will clean it up nicely

Update. Scratched out a symbol on the back.

Someone suggested it was a silverwave, but I can't find the model where the symbol is directly above the crown.

[–] Societyinflames@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Ebay seller: "Recently serviced"

[–] mineralturbo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It looks broken to me. But I am not a watch scientist

[–] Flat-Control6952@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That will buff out.

[–] Awkward-Sale4235@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

holy crap , radiant!!!

[–] Easy_Turn1988@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It probably needs a battery change

Edit : a bit of polywatch won't hurt but keep the patina

[–] 88MilesHour@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The Suwa factory is never going to succeed with work like this.

[–] widellp@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Finally some real patina , gorgeous

[–] solareonwow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can you reuse that dial on another working Seiko? Might look good ngl

[–] ThatIsSillyTalk@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The impressive part is it wasn’t a mother of Pearl dial when it went in

[–] SnooCats6706@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

does it still work?

[–] kuronekotango@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The watch is great and all but I can say for sure by looking at the comments that OP has a good sense of humor lol

[–] -BetOnIt@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

In its condition it’s still worth thousands

[–] collectionneur_dmg@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Box and papers?

[–] boredgmr1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Does it still run?

[–] ZM_USMC@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] SilasKSchneider@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Luckily its certified diving watch

[–] Virtual-Complex2326@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

First time seeing green patina

[–] Lobstertater90@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Clean it up, and it will probably run.

[–] makomako13@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What does "near Okinawa" mean. It's an island.

[–] georgetemperley@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Unrecoverable.

[–] 8avalon82@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Found with no band?

[–] robotic_otter28@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I automatically associated it with WW2 and didn’t think about other things happening there since

[–] Angry-Penetration@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Somebody call Geraldo.

Al Capone's watch has been found.
