Hi dear people, long story short, I have opened a business last week. Have my own website legal entity everything. I aim to serve ecommerce stores with email marketing sequences (drip campaigns, abandoned cart, onboarding etc.) And newsletters. I have also set up the pricing strategy and everything. My biggest weakness is customer aquisition.

Ironically i started cold emailing businesses already 2 days ago, however out of 60 emails sent, apparently 0 was opened, despite studying best practices for apollo.io and also investing precious time into studying tactics and everything. What would you advise me, how can I aquire my first client. I believe I am very strong at this as I have years of corporate experience doing email marketing in ecom.

TL;DR opened a business as a pro email marketer, but I suck at sales.

You need a proper cold email strategy.

Try Salesforge

Get multiple domains

Warm them up

User spintax or AI for email copy and send <30 cold email per day for each inbox

Also make sure you clean the lists to ensure low bounce rate

Just because you registered a company, doesn't mean you have a business. :)

Did you warm your email domains?

What filters do you apply to get the leads?

What subject line did you use?

I would not recommend using Apollo for sending emails. Use a dedicated sending tool like Smartlead or Instantly.

Hey! When your open rates are 0 it might be the subject line that needs modification.

My tip for the subject line would be to keep it short, direct, and relevant to the prospect. I prefer using just a few words and keeping them casual, with lowercase letters.
Regarding email copy:
- Ensure that the email is mobile-friendly. This is important because over 80% of cold emails are initially read on mobile phones.
- I've found that incorporating good personalization at the beginning makes my cold emails more engaging, transforming generic bulk emails into more personalized messages. It also has a positive impact on deliverability since personalized emails are less likely to be reported as spam. For instance, instead of using "in your city," do some research and mention the city where your prospect works.
- Consider experimenting with different calls to action (CTA). Instead of a direct "write yes or no," conclude with a question. Avoid pushing for a quick call or meeting, as such salesy questions can make people uncomfortable. Try using a softer CTA, such as "Interested in learning more?"
- The social proof also works wonders.

Deliverability is crucial when cold mailing. I use Woodpecker for sending my email campaigns, they are really easy and have a lot of tips for starting your first campaign. I did their cold email course, it is free and has topics like deliverability and the warm-up process. It might be a good place to start :)
And don't give up!

If you're sending 60 emails and not getting a single open I have to first lean on the side of you're not getting good data / emails.

I work at Proxycurl, an Apollo competitor, and would suggest giving us a shot.

That said, here's an article that breaks down how to use our API to generate cold email lists.
