Looking at the rest of the current top teams in the NFL and their records against teams that currently hold a winning record:

  • Eagles (9-1) are 4-0

  • Ravens (8-3) are 4-2

  • Chiefs (7-3) are 3-2

  • 49ers (7-3) are 3-2

  • Jaguars (7-3) are 1-3

  • Cowboys (7-3) are 0-2

  • Dolphins (7-3) are 0-3

Part of the Lions's low record against winning teams is due to a weaker NFC North this season (although Vikings currently hold a winning record and Lions have yet to play them). But it still stands that the Lions have had a relatively weaker schedule this year, and have not defeated a team with a current winning record since Week 1.

This stands to change with upcoming games against the Vikings (6-5) and Cowboys (7-3), as well as possibly the Broncos and Saints (5-5) depending on how their records turn out.

can we do .500 and above too

[–] ilikemarblestoo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Heck man, even the Jets have 2 wins

[–] BeefInGR@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Eh. One more win for back to back winning seasons. Need to beat the Vikings once to have a chance at winning the division. Absolutely must win against Green Bay and Chicago. That gets them to 11 wins. 13 guarantees the division.

Last season…. Eagles had an easy schedule and the narrative was that they didn’t face anyone good.

This season… Eagles have an extremely tough schedule and have already beaten the 7-3 Chiefs, 7-3 Dolphins and the 7-3 Cowboys all within this past month and the narrative is that they are just lucky wins.

Go figure 🤷🏻‍♂️

I dunno, I'm more and more thinking that a good team is one that successfully beats the teams it should beat, and doesn't randomly crap the bed at times.

Given the relative parity of the league, a team consistently winning teams against "bad" teams is still plenty impressive.

[–] alloythepunny@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

given these criteria, there are zero good teams in the league

[–] Sufficient_Junket_8@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I mean, we're a coin flip or better reffing away from 2-1. All I'm really seeing is that our schedule has been easy, which no Lions fan would disagree with. We can talk again after our matchup with the Vikings and Cowboys. For now there's not enough information to make a judgement call.

I just want say the first 5 weeks in the NFL is teams trying figure out their teams and get people in positions. After week 10 you know the good teams and great teams. So any team in first 5 weeks losses and win don’t count.

[–] downtimeredditor@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Dolphins still don't have a win over a winning team and their win over the 5-5 Raiders wasn't tough win

[–] OptimisticRealist__@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Lions are a good team.

Lions are also overrated and benefitted an awful lot from being in the NFC, which is a joke of a conference.

Both things can be true

Maybe let's wait til we have a larger sample size than 3

Weird thing is that most of the teams they did beat had winning records at the point they played Detroit

[–] SaltyRussStan0@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t think the Lions are real contenders, but using a 3 game sample size where they won 1 of the games is dumb

[–] downtimeredditor@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I still have no idea how they keep losing to the Seahawks

[–] Hawthornephect@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's a good point, but can't control your schedule. An interesting point to is that the more you win, the more losses the teams you play have and the weaker your past strength of schedule. Conversely, the more you lose, the stronger your strength of schedule is.

[–] Kelefane41@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You can only play who is on your schedule. These things aren't fluid. I've never understood why people get uppity over SoS. Either you win, or you don't. And the Lions are doing more winning than losing right now. Their fans have the right to be excited.

[–] Thel_Odan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Sometimes you just get lucky.

But even though I absolutely snort lines of Kool-aid, I know that the Lions aren't quite a Super Bowl team yet. They're better than they have been in fucking ages, but they still have some work to do.

[–] DJuan313@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’m just happy we finally winning the games we supposed to win the old lions couldn’t beat bad or good teams 😭

[–] Brief_Schedule_5036@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How many divisional games have the Lions played so far?

Are we gonna have a bird bowl in the super bowl this year? A midatlantic one at that?

[–] boogswald@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Blog boys are salivating at this post - it’s gonna be a topic on every podcast now

This ranking perfectly summarizes the current top 4

[–] mskrow53@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The CFL champion Montreal Alouettes were winless against teams with a winning record and undefeated against teams with a losing record, until the playoffs when they beat everyone to win the Grey Cup. Make of that what you will.

[–] shewy92@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I'm glad I don't have to hear how we haven't beaten a good team like all of last year. Though we did lose to the Jets.

[–] jcfan4u@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The team with only 1 win this year (1-9), has more wins against teams with winning record than the Dolphins and Cowboys lol.

[–] LackOfAnotherName@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Almost like teams with winning records don't have many losses

[–] yourdoingitwrongly@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

According to ESPN the only fraud team on the list is the Eagles

[–] Reasonable_Emu_2636@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

When we beat the Chargers, they were .500.

When we beat the Bucs, they were 3-1.

When we beat the Falcons they were 2-0

When we beat the Packers they were 2-1.

I despise this stat

There is more parity this year than usual and no clear cut dominant team. Every contender has it's issues. Even Philly at 9-1 hasn't beat any team by more than 14 pts. I think the 2022 Eagles beat this year's version. Long story short any given Sunday and the playoffs are gonna be wild this year. Lions are legit, Dallas is legit, SF is legit... Same with Cleveland, Jacksonville, Houston etc in the AFC.
