Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

Just saw the new egg deal on the seagate exos and wonder if that’s okay for my Synolagy? So far I only used WD red pro

I've got eight 12TB refurbed exos in one of my synologys. Been working fine for 3 years.

The 20TB exos is the same grade as red pro or gold.

I’ve got a few Exos drives. One of them failed within a year, but the Newegg vender was refurbishing them and reselling as new. Pretty scummy. My other Exos drive runs like a champ. 2 years in and no problems in Seatools or SMART. They are pretty load, though.
