Most people seem to be giving their ranks on MVP voting citing only QBs. It’s hard to imagine that just a title over 10 years ago Brees’ 46 TDs wasn’t enough to win MVP.

I’m curious as to who the real MVP candidates are. QB production is down so I’m really gearing towards awarding it to a defensive player like Myles Garrett. I know some people have also cited CMC and Hill.

“A QB shouldn’t win MVP this year”

Love how that’s stated so matter of factly and also so wrong.

Myles Garrett

[–] CordycepsAndPancakes@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I mean if stroud keeps playing the way he is then he should win it. Dude turned around a trash team and could potentially lead them to a division win and home playoff game in 1st year.

[–] duvalbosnian@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Tyreek all day

[–] Saxophobia1275@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

a QB shouldn’t win MVP this year

And yet they will

[–] Deep-Secret@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I disagree. My argument: MVPurdy.

[–] AleroRatking@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's going to be a QB but if not we need to see the rest of the season. Does Cleveland win the division? Then maybe Garrett. Do the 49ers go on a roll behind CMC? What about Pittsburgh with Watt. We just don't know.

[–] ohmysocks@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

OP: “which non-QB should win MVP?”

90% of commenters: [just absolutely ignoring the question] “A QB”

FWIW my pick is Tyreek. Or Myles Garrett if he continues dominating and the Browns somehow win the division

[–] asmallercat@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This could have been Jefferson’s year if he didn’t get hurt.

[–] arc777_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I would like to see Myles Garrett win MVP if the Browns make the playoffs

[–] aneyefulloffish@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Give it to a lineman, then I'll be impressed.

The thing is, as the award is named right now, a QB should always win it. The real solution is renaming the award to the Most Outstanding Player, in which case it would and should be a race between Myles Garrett and Tyreek Hill

If Daron Bland breaks the NFL pick-6 record (Howell twice and Josh Allen still on the schedule), then he deserves to AT LEAST be in the conversation!

[–] RootBeerFloatz69@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Miles Garrett. Dude just flat out is the most valuable player in football right now. Second place goes to Jason Kelce. Those are the correct answers, but everybody knows that a qb always gets to be prom queen. Makes no damn sense.

[–] BayTerp@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

CMC, Hill or Myles should win it

[–] OJSimpsons@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] MrT_in_ID@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Tyreek by a mile

[–] Wezzleey@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We still have almost 2 months of regular season to play. The vast majority of opinions today will be invalid come January.

[–] badassery11@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Have you guys heard of Brock Purdy?

[–] rylanschuster6969@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I was amazed to see a headline that Hurts had passes Mahomes for #1 in MVP odds. Had no clue either of them were really in the conversation, but I guess there aren’t any other QBs making a great case either.

[–] AzorAhai1TK@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nah it's still a QB. And probably between Lamar and Dak right now but anything could happen

[–] Parents_Mistake3@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Since their is a sub zero percent chance a QB wins. I give it to stroud.

He’s outplaying Mahomes an Hurts who are for whatever reason the top 2 ranked.

[–] ItsMeBenedickArnold@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Garrett, CMC, Tyreek are only contenders non-QB

[–] AC127@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As a Steelers fan I wanted it to be TJ, but he hasn’t been making the same number of impact players the past few weeks as he did at the beginning of the year.

Hate to say it but if I had a vote, it would probably be for Myles Garrett.

[–] BiioHazzrd@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Honestly if Tyreek passes 2k yards, he deserves it.

[–] West1234567890@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Crazy Hill is going to destroy the receiving yard record and he's not even an afterthought at +3000

[–] WestSide75@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Myles Garrett

Why should a QB not win MVP this year? The quarterback position is head and shoulders clearly the most important position for every team in today's game. So unless the top QB contenders all fall off a cliff between now and the end of December, picking anyone other than a QB does seem to me to be either likely or appropriate.

The last time a non-QB won the award was in 2012 (Adrian Peterson). The last time and Non-QB/Non-RB won the award was 1986 (Lawrence Taylor).

So if you are going to gun to my head tell me I have to pick an non-QB, it would have to be McCaffrey. But the truth is that, unless the 49ers finish with the best record in the league, it is almost certain that a QB will be winning MVP again this year.

[–] Drainbownick@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Running back. I’m going Lamar Jackson

Tangentially related, but upon grabbing a list of historical MVP winners I found the following:

1982: Mark Moseley (Placekicker - Washington Redskins)

Time to go down a rabbit hole. The idea of a kicker winning the MVP is so foreign to me that I can't imagine this ever happening again, a true 1/1

[–] Scary_Performance183@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Myles Garrett

[–] Alexir23@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Tyreek Hill.

[–] nanananabatman88@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Honestly a QB absolutely should win it this year. And it should be Stroud. Texans wouldn't have shit for wins if he wasn't under center.

[–] rickg@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Garrett or Tyreek. The talk of Hurts et all as MVP is silly. I could see an argument for Stroud if he continues tearing it up and esp if the Texans make a deep playoff run.

[–] Arkhangelzk@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don't think CJ Stroud is necessarily going to win as a rookie, but it's hard to overstate how valuable he's been to the Texans. I thought this team was still at least a year away from winning, but he has them doing it immediately. Take him off the Texans and how many wins do they have?

I know you said no QB but QB is always the most valuable position so it's hard to see anyone else making a case. CMC and Hill are great players, but their teams are better without them than the Texans are without Stroud or the Eagles are without Hurts.

[–] maricopa888@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Scanning thru all this, there's so many people who define it as best player rather than most valuable to their team. I guess I'm old school, but there are other awards for "best".

For example, Manning and Rodgers both won this several times, but if they'd had an elite D, I don't think they would have deserved it. Instead, look what happened when each was out a year. The entire team collapsed on both sides.

IMO, Miles Garret is a no-brainer. It's the opposite - the D is carrying this team, and it's even more impressive with the massive losses on offense. If he was a Raven, his name wouldn't even be mentioned.

[–] THEW0NDERW0MBAT@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Still 7 weeks left, a QB could go on a tear and easily win

[–] frankfontaino@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] Devilsbullet@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Trent Williams. We have two players in the MVP conversation, and neither would be without him, they were both pretty meh the games he was hurt/out

[–] LilKaySigs@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Christian McCaffrey

[–] jrc83@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

CMC. On one of the best teams and without him they are not as good.

[–] joaovitorsb95@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Its probably between CMC, Hill and Garrett if it isn't a QB. Probably Hill.

[–] Illustrious-Fox7493@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's CMC and it shouldn't be close

[–] YeezyWins@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Christian McCaffrey and it is not even close.

[–] Sartheking@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Brees would’ve won MVP with that almost any other season, but Rodgers decided to play god mode that year as well. He had 45 TDs to only 6 INT in 15 games despite sitting out most fourth quarters because they were up by so much.

[–] drlasr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Daron Bland when he gets his 5th pick-six

[–] buttfungusboy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Sewell or Saint Brown, yes I'm bias
