Its been April since I came back.

I always had a good time there, culture, people, food, nature, short term friends and some dating

Here I have high rent, no long term friends, non existant dating, it makes me always think about booking a ticket back, including all my friends saying they will go

Anyone have a similiar feeling?

Maybe try getting an educational visa? So you can stay longer there?

ED Visa is 1 year only and even if I attend classes, you need to pass tests. Which I will do

Get the Thailand METV, that will get you 6 months with extensions if done right. Then 3 months in Vietnam with their new evisa, and 3 months in Malaysia. That’s a year easy. Could then go another 3 months in Taiwan. Maybe that would give you a better indication if you wanted to invest more heavily in a long term visa once the tourist high wears off.

i went to Bangkok & Phuket about 15 yrs ago with a friend. ironically met my wife to be over email on the same trip on match (10yrs later sadly she is now my x), ever since i have sd Phuket is where i will retire & i too think about it frequently.
this was about 1 yr after the big tsunami i believe and our hotel had a new housing development portion that was built during the renovation of the island. we were fortunate enough to be in one and had an amazing 2 story, 4 bedroom house with infinity pool, on a golf course...it was inexpensive and almost too ridiculous for just the two of us (most of the time) for 2 weeks.

phuket has something for everyone and coming from a larger, lively, tourist destination city in the us, with tons to do, i was surprised by the opposite extremes within the same 10 mile radius. as in, Phuket is as crazy as you want, and as relaxing and tame as you want, at any time, in the same area.

sure, plenty of places are relaxing, and you can have a good time out if you want, but few offer these experiences to these levels, in my opinion. combine that with the fact that it is also located in an amazing city/country with wonderful people, great food, tons of culture, plenty to do and see, safe if not involved in things you should not be, affordable, beautiful...i could go on and on...and you have my favorite place and where i will retire, whatever and whenever that means...phuket rocks!

I think about this everyday

im in the same boat as you. what about hopping through SEA? you stay 3 months in thailand on tourist visa, 3 months in vietnam or laos and you loop this. so in total you stay 6 months in thailand per year on tourist visa. Im not 100% but i hope its possible to do this cycle endlessly for many years. or what about India or Bali? you can stay there for longer periods. India 6 months, bali i think even a year on the right visas. you can always then come back to thailand for like 6 months per year.

Oh yes. Lived in Thailand for three years, and lost my job in September. Moved to Taiwan, but miss Thailand everyday.

Any occupation that does not implement collective bargaining in some form will trend towards demanding the absolute physical limit of its workers for as little money as they need to survive.

The sadest foreigners in Thailand are the ones who moved there thinking it would make their lives better. I lived there for 5 years, and you saw these types of farang all the time. Usually alone at the bars, with a beer staring at bar girls.

I think about going back to Eastern Europe constantly. The more time I spend back home, the more I realize I must have left for a reason.

I plan on going there the moment I land a DN job (which hopefully won't take too long), can you tell me about it?

[–] Young_N_Wealthy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's amazing. Its why so many foreigners spend all their money there.

A little more detail? What happened to make you love the place so much? How different is it to here? How are people different? How did you live there? ...etc

You can always stay unlimited time in the Philippines. No visa runs, no hassle, no need to pay income tax.

Thailand is much better though.

[–] Young_N_Wealthy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Issue is crime, infrastructure etc... same cost too lol Theres a reason why its unlimited visa
