Home automation is the residential extension of building automation.

It is automation of the home, housework or household activity.

Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, security locks of gates and doors and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security.

Warning: Working with electricity can result in injury, property damage, or even death if it is not done properly. Please keep this in mind while assisting others. If you are not sure about what you are doing, hire a licensed professional.

I'm hoping to upgrade the thermostat at my SIL's house. It is an OJ Microline UTCG. It appears that model supports 120/240V as well as either an external or built in temperature sensor. I have not pulled the unit off the wall yet as I'm hoping to show up with the right part and just immediately install it.

Goal is to find as simple of a device as possible that supports having the thermostat on a timer. This current model does not which I find a bit mind blowing. Wifi is not needed - preference is for as simple as possible.

Are these devices completely standardized? I see OJ Microline makes wifi thermostats and other programmable thermostats. The wifi ones look identical to the Schluter thermostat I just installed in my own house. Which also looks identical to the Nuheat thermostats.

What do you all suggest?
