Hey all, I'm thinking about getting a rm2 while everyone is having their holiday sales. Unfortunately, even on sale, it's still pretty expensive; I want to know about any major issues it has before buying. I know that bugs and glitches pop up between updates, I have a Supernote A5X, so bugs/glitches aren't a problem for me. What major issues do y'all have with your rm2?

I haven’t had any. It’s a simple device but it’s worked perfectly for me for as long as I’ve had it

I love mine. I am a writer and distraction-free working is hugely important for me. I have the Type Folio, so I can type pretty effortlessly, but honestly, I love writing things longhand and then letting it recognize text. I have every gadget you can imagine, but for writing in a groove, there's nothing I like better.

The fact it has no dictionary and can not research for a specific word inside a document is frankly disappointing for a mature product

My take here is that they purposely remove this and all these other functionalities - that’s an unnecessary distraction given you likely have one easily accessible on your phone or computer - I imagine they aren’t too far away. Same with a clock - I don’t need that on my writing pad. They are trying to emulate a writing experience, and a dictionary is not part of the writing experience - it is a tool that writer’s use, for sure - please don’t misunderstand me…

How do you plan to use the device? I too have a Supernote A5X but I use my Remarkable as I was a preorder customer back in 2020. I enjoy the functionality of the Supernote however I tested them side by side for almost a month and realized based on my use case the additional functionality wasn’t something I used so it came down to the form factor, writing feel and just the simplicity of the product which kept me using the Remarkable. As my needs change so might my device.

I haven’t had many problems and yes in general it may not search for a specific word, but from an organization standpoint, I just tag the page with the topic or word, I either highlight or make a start or something on that page and I can still search and find the topic through keywords search. Same way you would color code something in a notebook. Similar to Supernote, I think now in the text function since you can create titles when typing, it creates a table of contents (I’ve seen a table of contents somewhere) just not with an uploaded PDF (bummer).

I haven’t had many issues but similar to other devices user, it can be sporadic and individualized based on use, internet provider, etc. I recommend taking your time but if you want one consider purchasing a used one off eBay or Mercari. You can find a reasonable priced and sometimes amazing deal just be sure to really check the pictures, description and seller ratings. I’ve got my whole family a remarkable just by setting up notifications and finding good deals. I’ve seen some whole item with the Type Folio, Marker Plus and tablet, box and more sell for $375. There are unopened essential box kits (comes with the tablet, marker and book folio together) on there now being sold for $200-$300 most of time from wholesalers.

Good luck and hope you get the device and enjoy the dual experience like I get to enjoy.

I have a bad habit of pulling out whatever paper is closest to me to jot down everything (mostly recipes, craft patterns, and gaming notes). As a result, my house is covered in half-filled notebooks and scrap pieces of paper. The Supernote as a product was really good at organizing all of my notes, and it was so easy to just keep it nearby and take it out whenever. My problem with the SN was the size; it was a lovely Christmas gift, but it was too small and oddly thick, making it awkward to write on.

Makes total sense and you will like the Remarkable. That was one of the first challenges I had with the Supernote was it was uncomfortable and another issue which now seems to be fixed was trying to find the comfortable position to write, it would always trigger the gestures thus changing the page in mid writing. That was the first reason to stop using it. Supposedly in 2024 maybe later in the year they are coming out with a A5X Thin version simply for that fact. I consider once I see it.

I just ordered myself a remarkable bundle with typefolio and am feeling the pain of sticker shock. I love the ideas for getting deals on eBay. I never considered that. I will keep an eye out.

Power button issues (google it) are a major flaw.

No issues at all. Really happy with it! Reading books, using it as an agenda, journal, doing maths, all great. Regarding the price: buy a stylus and folio somewhere else, I use the staedler pencil which is great and 1/3 the price. Same for the folio. Also, get a discount code from someone on Reddit

I’m having trouble moving a page out of Quicksheets into a new notebook. It will be stuck on ellipses forever. Instead, I have to create a new notebook separately and then move the page to it.
