Are Newcastle still crying about it. Its tough to win games with competent refs, right?

[–] Ajax_Trees_Again@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

1 day. 3 weeks.

I know it’s hard but can you tell which one is bigger?

[–] notapaperhandape@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I hear some tears behind that comment still hahahah. Hope that felt good 👍 😊. Enjoy being a loser team.

Robbery? Despite having VAR? Damn.

Would have loved to see P$G in Europa league where there is real competition.

[–] gunningIVglory@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

31 shots to 5

Yes, NC were robbed......

[–] PeachesGalore1@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think Newcastle should respect and accept the refs decision, regardless of how awful it was.

Otherwise maybe they should pipe down about Arsenal.

[–] Tpickarddev@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Newcastle did respect the decision.. did you watch the way the players and Howe didn't have hissy fit? They said they "didn't feel it was a pen but have to respect the referees call"

It was night and day compared to Arsenals reaction and the fans have rightfully got pissed off for a day or two. But the club itself while disappointed in the bad call won't react like it's some sort of conspiracy.

[–] therealmakka@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Disgusting pen. Disgrace

[–] Hoogstens@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

while i did think that PSG would eventually score i wasn't expecting it to happen that way. that call was inexcusable, i would say almost corrupt.

[–] councilsoda@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I would have took a draw if any of the dozens of gilt edge chances PSG had went in, but this bizarre pen is a shit way to end the game.

[–] papyfred0@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

lost vs one of the farmers league club. Not enough money in english league maybe to buy the best players in the world? What a shame. I wouldn't want to be in your shoes.

[–] robb0216@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] Hoover1414@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What were non English broadcasts saying about the call?

[–] shrim666@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

ce n'est pas du handball

[–] arseking15@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

50/50 call, coulda went either way. Think psg deserved a pk earlier as well. Think Newcastle got away with it

[–] Matthegreat34@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hate when people look at games where one side is held scoreless like that and think the other team defended well, Newcastle gave up chance after chance and wasted countless opportunities to hold on to possession or fully clear the ball. Woeful defending but still robbed as PSG were as clinical as a team of Antonys up front

[–] Sad_gooner@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Great game by mbappe could’ve had 2-3 assists

[–] TeKaeS@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

he had a shit first half because it didnt work with Kolo. Was much better when Kolo was subbed out

All I have to say and I think I can speak for all French NT fans, Kingsley Coman please stay healthy until the euros fam don’t leave us with Dembele on that right wing

[–] DEGRAYER@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Look at Howe's reaction compared to Arteta's lol

[–] Ro-khum@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I'd take Arteta's emotional investment anyday instead of all this PR Machines.

[–] smidget1090@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Absolute disgrace of a result. Newcastle were robbed blind with that penalty.

[–] Aig1178@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I know that this sub has a huge anti PSG bias (even when it's another oil club on the other side). So yes, PSG can be considered very tough. I agree with that. But for me there was a penalty on Hakimi and PSG and a handball by Newcastle earlier which was surely more of a penalty than the latter decision.

However, PSG were cursed in this match, on a "normal" evening PSG should put 4 in the second half. Newcastle never got past the midfield again from the second half onwards. And they can thank Donnaruma for giving them a ridiculous goal.

In short, Newcastle are a good team with heart, but for me PSG were clearly the better team tonight and a draw is the minimum.

In any case, this group is still wide open. Newcastle, Milan and PSG can still qualify. PSG can finish first or third. It's wide open.

A bit tiring to see the same comment over and over : intent does not matter, hitting another part of the body does not matter : read rule 12 it's easy to find (I just did because I thought the other body part was in the rule as well : it's not it's just a PL thing).

I do agree it's harsh but the first handball earlier in the 2nd half should definitely have been given so in my biased opinion, it evens out.

Last thing, if I ever want someone to take this penalty, it's Kylian. The lad just seems unfazed while 40k people are shitting themselves in the stands.

[–] RockThatThing@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It’s because ambiguity of the rule. It’s a foul if the body is made unnaturally bigger by hand/arm is not a consequence or justifiable by the player’s body. His body was made larger yes, but as a result of his movement as he was in natural motion.

It’s too ambiguous cause where do draw the line? Having your trailing your body is a natural movement of the body as to keep balance.

Key thing here though is that it doesn’t hit the hand. It hits the chest and deflects onto the hand.

[–] KnightAtNight@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

PSG should’ve lost . They played like shit. Specifically that Barcola guy

[–] DeScientist@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’ll accept the technicality, it’s harsh as fuck but thems the rules I guess.

Super proud of the effort put in by a threadbare squad. The club has come so far in just a couple of years. Moments like this are just fuel for the future. Howay!

[–] UziKru@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nah dude, those are not the rules

Harsh pen but that goal was coming for about 40 minutes. Can't just sit back and boot the ball away with no desire to keep possession.

[–] Numerous-Ad-3050@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

HOW do you get 31 shots and a 4.5XG and your only goal is a rigged penalty?? Didn’t watch the game but can someone tell me who was struggling to finish lol

[–] phorteng@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Stop talking about xg you sound like nerds

[–] papyfred0@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

If you don't like PSG, remember that they'll get robbed in the last eight or quarter-finals against Barcelona, Real, United or whoever. For every favorable decision granted to PSG, 5 are given to their opponents.

[–] serennow@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t care about PSG but you’re now basically through rather than likely eliminated due to one of the worst decisions anyone will see this season.

Surely you’re not dumb enough to think anyone cares about some imagined decision that might go against you several rounds later.

[–] jomicaza@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Please be serious

[–] Elite_Alice@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Feel gutted for Newcastle this would’ve been their biggest night since ‘69. Def were weaker in the second half, but that was not a pen

[–] Grandiosesquid@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Lol idk how anyone can be gutted for Newcastle for crying out loud

Oh no! Anyway...

Decent result. Galling conclusion. No idea if the pun was intended

[–] roryking97@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

All the talk will (rightfully) be about the penalty but can we have some appreciation for Lewis Miley. Looks a very interesting prospect to say the least. Nothing out of this world on the ball, he does the simple stuff right (which is no slight on him btw) but off the ball his reading of the game and football iq is insane for a 17 year old

[–] Usual-Airport-3298@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

GET FUCKED NEWCASTLE HAHAHAAAA

[–] serennow@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Just flagging the hypocrisy from a fanbase who pretended they wanted improvements in refereeing and weren’t just crying because they wanted decisions in their favour….

[–] picnicofdeath@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What are we? Almost a month out? Incredible behaviour

Horrible call indeed. That was totally unintentional. I can only guess the referees discussed that the "arm was extended away from the body" but that is certainly not an "unnatural position". So I don't get what the rule even is anymore.

[–] Interesting_Common54@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The handball rule is shit but unfortunately that's the right call. Ref has to give it you can't blame him or VAR for following the IFAB guidelines. Very similar to Napoli penalty against Real Madrid in matchday 2.
