Whaaaaaat. This is so cool! I’m happy to see native Linux games! <3

Title should have something like "Steam Deck only version" in it IMO.

This is not a general Linux version and will only download on a Steam Deck, not a generic Linux PC, as per my reading of the article

It says Larian will only provide support for it in the Steam Deck, which is fair as there are a bazillion distros and hardware setups. I'm pretty sure you will be able to download it in any desktop and be able to play it in most cases.

Edit: I misread the last part of article. The bug was that you can't download the game at all in linux desktop, not that you can't download the native build. It isn't available sadly in desktop.

I was gonna wait until its sale prices dipped into the sub-$30 range. But this might actually get me to buy it sooner.

You need to force compatibility to Linux in the game settings on Steam and then it runs just fine on Bazzite for me.

Others have reported that they get an empty download if they force the Linux runtime (Sniper). Are you saying you did that and got a full-size linux download?

[–] jonathan@piefed.social 5 points 3 days ago

That was a bug that was quickly fixed.

Kind of the opposite of PC gaming though, isn't it? You can't download it on desktop Linux.

That’s… a strange choice. They must have only tested it on Steam Deck hardware… as if Desktop Linux users aren’t seasoned and running on “unsupported” hardware, lol.

The SteamDeck is a PC, it’s just handheld.

[–] RickyRigatoni@retrolemmy.com 8 points 3 days ago

Every PC is handheld if youcre strong enough.

~~? Then why did steam just reinstall Baldur's Gate on my linux desktop? And now it no longer uses proton and instead uses Steam Linux Runtime 3.0~~

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Really? The article and its comments indicate it's not offered. Does it run for you?

So, does it work for ya natively?

This is an important tidbit. Thank you all for working through that and saving me a future headache.

Looking at related github issues it may have been fixed, if I understood correctly. GitHub link was added to the article. I would check on my own machine but it's 4 AM and I just finished hyperfocus fuled coding session, gnight. Hope this works on desktops fingers crossed.

[–] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I mean I never really had any problem running it with proton on desktop anyway

[–] inzen@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Fair enough. Same for me personally, but I think it's just cool if it works natively.
