until the heavily armored proelium bibliothecarii finally allows the party past the warded statues of the Librarians Who Remain Everwatching, down the dark spiraling stairs of the Last Redoubt (and the 2,000 tonnes of acid that can flood the stairs at a moments notice), through the barracks of the Blind Warriors (ritually blinded at birth and trained to fight solely using their sense of hearing), and into the Reference Section
This reminds of playing 4e (or was it 5e?) when it just came out - the 2 basic healing classes were cleric and warlord.
I loved to joke that while a cleric would have to appeal to a higher power to literally knit your wounds together my dwarf would shout โrub some dirt on it!โ And it would have exactly the same effect.
Draw Steel fixes this by naming its health resource stamina. You're using up your stamina avoiding and tanking hits. The tactician can inspire you to get your second wind.
The best magical library books are the ones that have to be held shut with chains.
There are also less powerful books that are held closed with chains just because it's their kink

A wizard that relies on HP to stay alive is a wizard with poor judgement.
