In the days of player empowerment and constant moving around teams, it feels like there are more players than ever that are guarantees for the Hall... but possibly no teams that want to hang their number in the rafters. Who do you reckon falls into this category?

For those of you saying the Raptors will retire Kawhi’s number, they already gave out his number to Jalen McDaniels, who signed with them this offseason.

I really hope James Harden

Dude does not deserve any positive press

idk about OKC but Golden State should definitely retire it

[–] Overall-Palpitation6@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Who's retiring James Harden's number? Houston?

[–] dotorb@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Number retirement was a thing decades ago but I dont think anybody cares anymore. Players unretire numbers, people wear 23, its a nice gesture but essentially meaningless in todays market of player movement.

Kyrie most likely, Cleveland is frankly the only team that might consider retiring his jersey and even then, i’m not too sure if he’s really done enough to warrant it. Being the #2 guy that hit a huge shot and had some big games for their one championship is huge, but I wonder if the real lack of quantity might counter it

not sure Kawii gets his Jersey retired, San Antonio doesn't fondly remember him , Toronto was only one year, and he's been hurt too much in LA.

Future HOF which I think are not getting their jersey retired:

Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard, Carmelo, Aldridge, Kawhi, PG, Jimmy Butler

Griffin will go for the clippers I bet

[–] GenevaPedestrian@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Jimmy is gonna get his retired. We have Tim Hardaway and Zo retired, Jinmy is a guarantee.

Comparing Mourning with Butler lol.

Robert Horry

CP3. Maybe the Clippers, but even then, after they had to the call the cops on him, it does cast some doubt on it. Also, it feels like he was in LA for so much longer than he was, and it feels like he was in New Orleans for much shorter than he was.

Weirdly I feel like OKC is sorts in contention since he technically played in OKC for his first two seasons.

I really like this question. In response, I’d say James Harden’s numbers will out him the HOF, but has burned so many bridges, I can’t imagine any team hanging his jersey up in their rafters. Conversely, LeBron should have his jersey up in three places.

A whole bunch of guys who spent most of their careers team hopping around in the superteam era.

[–] Ythfucmi@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

James Harden?

[–] NBApundit@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Kawhi although some Raptor runs will disagree. Unless of course he wins a ring for the Clippers, which I think is unlikely at this point.

[–] Vindicare605@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

James Harden.

Would the Rockets really retire his number when he didn't even bring them to a finals game?

I think the Thunder MIGHT retire his number since that 2012 squad was the best the franchise has had since it moved to OKC, but even there, Harden was the third man down with KD and Russ being the stars. If they retire his number they should probably retire Ibaka's as well.

Nets, Sixers obviously aren't going to retire his number. Clippers haven't retired ANY jersey number as far as I know and Harden should be VERY far behind other Clippers for the honor of being first in line.

[–] 3nnui@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Kawhi and PG

[–] Life_Crossover@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

James Harden would be an interesting one

[–] RelevantBiscotti6@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How about Harden🫣

[–] BionicCrazyStraw@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If the Knicks were bad nowadays my guess would be they would have retired his jersey right around when he became hall of fame eligible to drum up some excitement & hope he retires a knick.

Now that we have actual basketball shit to worry about, and knowing that James Dolan isn’t exactly the biggest fan of former players, I don’t think we retire it. As much as a lot of people liked him, he simply wasn’t good enough to deserve it.

Andre Drummond

[–] lxkandel06@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Who's gonna retire Kawhi's number?

The Spurs tenure obviously ended on bad terms and fans still hate him there

The Raptors run was memorable but is 1 season enough?

He hasn't done anything meaningful for the Clippers

[–] lebaron92@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Jimmy Butler feels like a giant toss up unless he brings a title

[–] 32156444@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Vince Carter

Who is retiring KD’s number? Or Harden’s?
