I'll just be happy to have RCS support, I don't want to have to keep emailing pictures to people on iMessage. I could care less about whether I can play 8 ball with them

It's just not big enough in the EU. Everyone uses WhatsApp. If Google wants to push a regulator to do this then they need to find one in a market where iMessage is actually used.

Aren't Americans the only ones who use that thing?

The US has been the land of SMS for a long time, and that's why iMessage is a product placing itself amazingly for that market.

They are also the only ones who care about RCS, which to the rest of the world seems like someone trying to improve the VHS tapes.

I got a 2FA code from some service via SMS some time ago and that was the first time the Samsung Messages app asked me to enable RCS. Haven't used it since then. Most my contacts are luckily on Telegram.

In the article, it specifically mentions "Business users" and I can torally agree on that. Not many people use iMessage here in the EU or Switzerland anyway and for business I would say practically zero. I have seen bussiness use Threema, Wire, Telegram, Slack or Google Meet.

And heck, if businesses here have customer live chat with messenger, it's either WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.

I personally never had to use iMessage after the rise of WhatsApp - neither privately nor in bussiness.
