I'm just thinking of cases where a country takes over and exiles the old army, and it's seen the rise of various terrorist groups as you've essentially left a bunch of military trained, often zealouse, young men without a career. Could a similar thing happen with Cyber?

As an unemployed CS grad, I think most of us understand the risks of cybercrime. Developing an illegal platform that generates enough income to live off of, while avoiding the authorities and living in a first world nation, is something very few people can pull off.

What I see in my unemployed peers is a proclivity to simply give up. For many this means rotting in their parents basement, for many others it means suicide. The ones who continue to struggle through dead-end jobs openly display violent fantasies, sexual depravity, support for fascism, and other deeply concerning antisocial behavior.

Arguably the last bit is more dangerous....

My crashout plan is to become a priest

[–] MycelialMass@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Does that not fall under sexual depravity?

It was a joke about priests and their apparent prediliction for kids

Not likely, cause the AI would protect us

No. In the same way that a lack of smithing jobs caused an increase of weapons to the public.

Probably not. Call me cynical, but I think the last several generations of young developers got into the career because they thought it was the fast track to a long lifetime cushy job.

That dream hqs exploded, and now only skilled developers have work. So there's a bunch of angry, unemployed, incompetent people who can't develop their way out of a paper bag and wouldn't be able to realize this plan of yours.

Fair. It's annoying for those who did it out of passion

Well yeah... It's why I got out of game dev. Too many complete fucking incompetents flooding the market. Some things never change.

I think I've found a small niche career in something that satiates my interest but is away from hustle culture. Issue is it's an internship, I hope they keep me on, though.

Go with your dreams my friend!

When I started, we made the very first internet-based games and I could tell you stories but I'm not here to pump up my ego.

Yes, games technology web, it's all old hat to everybody now but there was a time when we were the bleeding edge.

If you want to do something that's niche or off the rails or total unique, do it my friend.

Just do what makes you happy.

Also now I'm curious, what is this area that you're interested in?

I can see more of a growth of whats happening in Japan with it's Tokuryu crime. Anonymous groups of criminals coming together for specific jobs.
