Shocked there aren't 50 people commenting in here "but but but Ultra processed foods aren't even defined! Isn't bread processed? We've been eating it for years!"
They're defined. Olive oil and flour are processed. Your fruit loops and 15 ingredient bread are ulta-processed.
If you need heavy machinery to make the "food product" it's ultra processed. Once you figure this out, it become intuitive to tell them apart, and be healthier over all.
Saw some folks the other day arguing what the Mediterranean diet was. It's basically a high fiber, low processed diet. And no, red meat isn't really part of it.
I get ao upset with this shit, cuz meanwhile folks are trying to excuse their burger meals, while people are getting sick and dying, while I see the solutios screaming in my face.
Too many people don't know where their food comes from. I think thats part of why some folks dont understand the differences between ultra processed and processed. They dont know a bell pepper grows on a bush, an onion in the ground, or an orange on a tree and ..the animals.. The conditions of the living creatures, It makes me sad. They don't know how additives are made, and what food chemistry is.
If you are unhealthy, learn to garden (you dont have to do it per se, just learn a bit) and learn to cook from scratch. Thats it. There are no shortcut's, longevity is from the earth, not the machines.
I've had too much espresso this morning, and I always sound like a cunt, but I've saved myself, and I want others to as well. It only sucks getting started. Sugar addiction is read, these companies have purposely used the same tactics as tobacco companies to make food so addictive. Pringles chips are basically masticated fried potatoes reconstructed. Like think about it, fucking cheetos, same shit, it's been chewed up (precessed) and spit out into the form of a Cheeto, and then you eat it, like a baby bird. But once you cut yourself from these ultra processed snacks, you don't miss them after a time, and real food taste good again.
I'm not perfect. But we all could try a bit harder and maybe some of our brothers, fathers, family and friends could live healthier, happier lives.
End rant, fucking sorry.
To add, My mom had four strokes last October. She had a whole thing eating veggies, meaning she didn't eat any of them, except corn potatoes and carrots both cooked and slathered in butter. She ate red meat and pork. I cooked an onion in her house once and she washed the pan in bleach. Watermelon smelled like death to her. The doctor had to convince her to start drinking juice in her 40's because she hated water. Diet sodas and coffee for her always. She wasn't obese, but very unhealthy. When she had four strokes in a few days at 65, I couldn't help but wonder, if her lifetime diet of red meat, potatoes and butter, played a role. :( She couldn't have cabbage, but could eat any ultra processed snack though, little Debbie, oreos, Ice cream. But fuck a bell pepper or spinach. Now she can't live on her own, her birthday is today, and I'm estranged (I fucking hate her) but she's only 66 today being her birthday, and she'sbasically dead. Guess I'm feeling some way about it. :(
