When was the first one? 1995? TIL there was a movie in 2021 that was so far off my radar I missed it entirely.

Yeah the 2021 movie flew under my radar as well, they did a shit job of promoting it. Its actually a decent movie, much better than the cheesy ones from the 90s.
It came out during COVID which is a lot of the reason people don’t remember it I think.
This is a sequel to a reboot.
Mortal Kombat August 18, 1995 Mortal Kombat Annihilation November 21, 1997
Then it was rebooted.
Mortal Kombat April 23, 2021 Mortal Kombat II May 8, 2026
Five years later. For a reboot that did middling business at the box office. I guess it did well on streaming later. 🤷♂️
The 2021 movie came out on HBO Max only. It was part of a string of releases that weren't going to make it to theaters because of COVID.
This looks like exactly the dumb fantastic fun I crave.
I’m so seeing this in theaters😁
It's Mortal Kombat II, but by the trailer it sounds like they're reintroducing all the lore. Is this a sequel in name only but really a reboot?
Its been a while for me, but wasn't 2021 mostly around recruiting earthrealm heroes and training? I don't recall actually making it to the tournament. This should be picking up directly after as the movie ended with Cole going to find Johnny Cage.
Yeah, it's a sequel with several of the cast from the 2021 film returning.
Oh my bad. I saw a different comment about a 2021 movie but didn't realize this was a sequel to that one. With all the 20+ years later sequels lately I just assumed it was from the 90s version.
Shao Kahn looks incredible, loving the mask and texture on his arms.
yessss my body is ready (for a fun popcorn flick)
