What is this for? Keeping pots of tea warm?

[–] Pantoffel@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago

Exactly. This one is out of brass and in traditional style of Ostfriesland, a region in northern Germany and the Netherlands.

Alternatively: file that fucker down then hit it with some sandpaper then a scouting pad, and worry less overall about it. Nail files would be fine even, just clean them with a hard bristled brush after. That metal should be pretty soft.

Thanks, I should probably try that once the slippers fall off.

The slippers have their own cute charm though I'll admit

Stop it! Violence is not the solution!

The slippers are so cute though!

[–] iHUNTcriminals@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Do you use sterno for that?

[–] Pantoffel@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sorry, what's sterno? Non-native English speaker here.

alcohol gel pot, the little tins with blue goo in them used by caterers.

Though judging by the small glass in there you either burn alcohol directly or use a candle.

[–] Pantoffel@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah, thank for the explanation. No, we are using small candles.

[–] ASK_ME_ABOUT_LOOM@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In the US we call them "tea candles" and I only now realized why.

[–] SenorBolsa@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah I was about to mention that, It's exactly where that terminology came from.
