Fuck Microsoft.

And Apple,

And all other american tech companies who bent the knee to the big orange moron.

Install Linux. It's free and unlike windows, getting better every month.

I agree. The bending of the knee is the real issue at hand. Yes windows has become a mess but following Trump's tune is unforgiveable.

Came to Linux about a year ago and couldn't really be happier. Will never use Windows again. Everything runs better, some things take a little work to get working but worth it in the end to avoid Microslop and I feel like I actually own my pc and not forced to do what Microshit forces. Also use GrapheneOS on my phone and its a blessing as well having no Google crap dependencies, etc.

And that little work it takes to make everything run as you want, diminishes every year as the system is updated.

[–] ItsNotImportant24@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

True, it keeps getting better and improved every day.

This - and thank you.

I have 3 computers at home and 2 of them are Fedora. I still need a Windows box because Wines just don't work for the windows only apps.

[–] Lydon_Feen@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Have you tried Bottles and/or WinBoat?

[–] jaschen306@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

I tried bottles and it didn't work. I haven't tried Winboat.

I think Bottle is also pretty steep when it comes to installing. There are too many options that I'm not sure which ones would work.

I think I got it sorta working on the insta360 app and then the videos wouldn't load which defeats the purpose of the app.

I'm still running windows because it's still the most used OS, but one foot is out the door for me.

I also refuse to use Apple products.

I'm out of the loop, what happened that they bent knee?

[–] Hond@piefed.social 28 points 1 week ago

Microsofts messaging and the news cycles its involved in are such a glorious mess in the last few months.

Nothing adds up.

Funniest shit i've seen since someone turned himself into a pickle.

So, uh, nothing really changes?

The new version of the program doesn’t seem much less confusing than the current system, as there are still a whole bunch of branches, sub-branches, and exceptions to rules

As I read more about the new system, this was my exact thought as well.

they do address the other major pain point of the Insider Program as it currently exists—the thing where you read about a new feature in a fresh Insider build, install that build to your PC, and then don’t actually see the feature on your system.

It was fucking crazy that was even a thing before...

That’s what an AI would say to avoid deletion…

Windows quality? Hahaha... Some of us remember Win 95...

[–] daggermoon@piefed.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I built a second shittier PC to run Windows for dumb stupid thing that requires a bare metal Windows install. I'm not looking forward to debloating that shitass OS.

[–] thedogz22@thelemmy.club 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You've likely already heard of it, but give the Chris Titus Powershell debloater a try: https://christitus.com/windows-tool/

Doesn't even require an install, you can run it portable through the shell. Lets you nix a crazy amount of telemetry and corporate sorcery.

[–] unitedwithme@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

Just setting up the OS you can toggle a lot of the things off, I don't know why you'd leave those enabled in the first place! That and disable several more optional services too once in the desktop in settings. Though 11 is a resource hog, it's quick to undo it-not that I'm defending MS. Please utilize whatever resources necessary

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

As windows quality has always been mediocre at best, where does that lead?
